I’ve used Valvoline Vr1 mineral in my last 3 Harley’s! Sleep well my brother!

My Sister-in-law’s 2021 Subaru Forester.
I changed the oil back in November 2025. Her 1st OCI after purchasing it with 63k. I told her to bring it back in 5,000 miles or thereabouts, and let’s change it again. Not knowing the history on this car, I wanted to see what the filter looked like after 5k. I was also curious if it was going to consume any oil.
She drove 6,410 miles in 5 months. It was just under the full mark, maybe 1/8th of a quart low. That’s perfectly fine, especially for a Subaru. 😉
The engine air filter and the cabin air filter looked alright back in November, so we put off changing those until this OCI. I had them on hand this time, ready to go in.

I will post a C&P of the Mobil 1 M1-108 oil filter later.

Out/Off- Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W20 / Mobil1 M1-108
In/On- Mobil 1 Advanced Clean 0W20 / Subaru 15208AA21A (Indonesia)

Now for my oil change. It’s all the same viscosity, so my only choice is which brand. 😉🍻

Got to use my VEVOR oil extractor for the first time, it pulled around 4.6l (4.86qt if Google's calculations are right) - the car holds 5qt so this seems very sufficient. First time trying Valvoline Restore and Protect, will run this for 4k miles, to 85k then switching to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for 5k intervals. Looking forward to see if the dipstick varnish is cleaned at all from the Valvoline Restore and Protect (took a picture of the before). Part of me wants to run the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum until the oil monitor is at 0% just to see how far it goes, 3k is still 70% on the dash; the timing chain issues with these cars and old habits is the only thing stopping me for now. With the Ultra Platinum being on-sale at Walmart, the $30 rebate, and the Purolator One's being on closeout on RockAuto, looking at around $18 per oil change for at least the next two.

The oil life monitors don't account for oil brand/flavor/viscosity. They have algorithms that may change based on driving habits of short trips vs highway, how many start/stop, how long once started, full throttle or easy drive. Possibly outside temperature.

So for yours it won't care what you put in it or if you didn't even change it and just reset the monitor instead.

2 Hyundai's I maintain have a direct days/mileage monitor, no adjusting for driving conditions
Jeep Renegade adjusts as per algorithm but shows nothing until a couple hundred miles prior to change. Might be 5k, might be 8k, no percentage.

Deja Vu? 2019 Honda Pilot EX-L. Just got back Monday from a 4 day, 1000+ mile round trip to VA to visit my son and his wife for Easter.

83,800 miles on the motor.
5,583 miles on the oil.

Out - approximately 5.25 qts Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30 and Premium Guard PG4612EX
In - 5 qts of Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5w30 and .25qts of HPL PCEO 5W-30 and another pre-filled Premium Guard PG4612EX. Trying for use up of older stock and open bottle. VCM is disabled now so not as much concern for rings and keeping at 5k intervals. Some year it may go back to Valvoline Restore and Protect.

Since the August change it also had torque converter replaced, then 6 month later the whole transmission with another torque converter. Timing belt, water pump, tensioner and pulleys and somewhere there lower control arms, RF strut, master cylinder and booster. Most of that covered under extended HondaCare.

2013 Impala 3.6L, 194,000 miles.
4,000 miles and 6 months on oil. OLM at -23%. (Reset at 5% but I’m sticking with 6 months). Approx. 1/2 qt added during the OCI.
Out: Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0w40, Carquest Premium 84502 (China).
In: Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0w40, Carquest Premium 84502 (Vietnam).
