I had a 91, brings back memories,,, My old girl got hit by lightning ( I had just gotten out of the car and walked 20' away) A few seconds early and it would have got my head. It Killed the car, replaced the ECM and it was never right, Dash lights stayed on... Then a month later purchased a new home and the first day I hear, crash, bam boom. A basketball goal fell on my car and took out the windshield, hood and left quarter panel, after that she and I parted ways...1992 Mercedes 300D 2.5 turbo, 175,500 miles, 5,300 mile OCI

Those earlier generation Mercedes from the 1980's and 1990's were more reliable than Toyotas / Hondas of that same era.1992 Mercedes 300D 2.5 turbo, 175,500 miles, 5,300 mile OCI

If you wanted to take it to 400,000 miles, I'm sure the car could make it.
Yes, that's very impressive. Maybe someday Mercedes will re-visit the pursuit of building cars for longevity that last 400k+ miles with very few repairs needed. One person on the W124 North America forum just passed 1 million miles in a W124 with the OM602 engine. 5k OCI with conventional 15W-40.

Just had a question. Honda/Toyota seem to have abandoned cars 1994 or older in terms of parts availability and after market support is marginal. Are you still able to get parts directly from Mercedes for your 1992 Mercedes 300D?
That’s awesome! I did 12 years at a dealer and then 30 years at the railroad. Needless to say I get along better with men2021 Sonata, 2.5L Smartstream, 85.6k miles, my daughters boyfriend. He bought it used from Enterprise car sales about 1.5 years ago. His normal shop did some changes as well as Pep Boys at least 1x. No missing bolts or broken clips underneath. The service minder was not enabled so I presume the details are from last reset. 7410 miles/211 days (about 7 months). It will need a new oil pan gasket as its leaking some and getting messy. Old oil was dirty but didn't smell at all like fuel. I enabled the service minder for 5k/6 months. Motor looks clean at least through fill port.
It is burning some. Back in May it needed about 1.5 qts to get to full, I didn't check mileage but he does some decent drives to get to work. It might have been lower to start depending what shop did. Manual calls for 5.5 qts, takes 6.2qts to full. After a recent trip to PA it needed an another 1/2 quart. Doing the Valvoline Restore and Protect to try and stop that.
Out - 6.2 qts of unknown oil and Ecogard S211914 filter.
In - 6.2 qts of Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W-20 and OEM cartridge 26350 2S001. Says made in Korea.

Why? What are you expecting to gain?Next OCI, I’m going to do the conversion using parts from a 2018-2022 Prius/Corolla to use Toyota N1/F1/F2 or PH4967/51394 sized filters.
Less mess and less inventory - one less filter to have on hand as one can service three cars. I have 3 filters on hand, the standard Toyota D1/PH3614 spin-on, N1/PH4967 and the A1/CH9972. I’ll have to buy A6/CH10385 filters now. Why? What are you expecting to gain?
