The R and P oilYear is almost over, so we'll see the final tally for most used oils on the forum soon enough. Looks like Valvoline has made huge strides in popularity here this year, and I think we'll see Pennzoil with a lower take rate than last year.
Ahhh, good ole green GC. Still miss it, though I have no need of a thick 30 any more. It didn’t just look cool, it even smelled special. I guess only an oil nut would react this way. I still wonder whether Castrol just put some fluorescent green dye into it as a bit of humor to see whether they could get oil geeks riled up. If that was the intent, well, obviously it worked! There have always been "darlings" of BITOG over the years. We've cycled through Schaeffer oil, Maxlife, GC 0w30 (green formula), Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and many more, and now it's R&P. It sure does appear that this oil can do what it claims, and at under $30 it's priced a lot less than other boutique oils that can very likely do that same job of cleaning.
Still waiting for the R&P to appear in 0w-16 and 0w-8 formulations...The VRP is running rampant right now. It's headed to be #1 (toppling Mobil-1) when the votes are counted for BITOG's 2024 Most Highly Discussed and Most Highly Purchased motor oil brand.
Concerning my daughter's and grandson's vehicles....Had wife let Walmart do oil change on the Mazda last week.
Out- Valvoline R&P 5w30/ Fram TG
In- Synthetic 5w30, not sure on the filter I need to check the receipt. An interesting note, even though this oil change came off of having just run BG EPR, The oil was really dark. One other small thing, over the course of the OCI the level went down about 3/4 of a quart. Never noticed any measurable loss before on this motor will keep an eye this oil change.
