Post your latest differential oil/transfer case change

Project Jeep, 242J Tcase, 106k miles. It has been driving around the property a little bit. No noises heard over the engine knocking, haha. Went to change the fluid and had this half a water bottle ready to grab a sample to have a look at in better light. Well I caught it all in the bottle ...

This is all that came out. Smelled like ATF, slightly. The Tcase didn't look to have any obvious leaks, but there wasn't much to leak apparently. Might of been factory fill.. rebuild kit ordered.

Did the Wife's 2014 Armada 4x4 this weekend. I change them every 30K.
145K(did it early before it starts to get cold out)
Front and rear diffs got 75-90 ST
T-case got Valvoline dex/merc (Matic D)
Tranny got Valvoline multi (Matic S)

Pulled the fill plug on an '06 BW4416 to find this (plug also severely mangled by previous tech who almost surely didn't understand 3/8" does not equal 10mm).

I let it correct itself and will monitor to verify my concern that front input seal is no bueno

1994 F350 cc drw, 10.25" Sterling 4.10 open diff. Truck is new to me, so I am going thru and changing all the fluids.
Out: unknown, was full and didn't look terrible.
In: Frankenstein of 1.5 qt Valvoline 75w140, .5 qt Valv 80w90 and 1 qt Mystic 80w90, i was getting rid of partials. Plus 8oz of Lubegard diff additive.
Going to leave this in for about 5k then refill 3qts of Mystic 80w90.
I was surprised by the Mystic being a red color, kinda cool

Amsoil severe gear 75w-140 2015 Expediton rear axle. Amsoil severe gear 75w-140 rear, 75w-110 front diff, 2012 F150. I notice some of the Ford axles are noting to not fill to the top of fill hole, maybe 5/16 ish below. That is a royal pain to achieve. I replaced a rear axle seal that was bad, I did the other side since I had things apart.
I'm sure any normal person/shop just fills pretty much everything to the fill opening untill it comes out the fill. I followed Fords procedure to a T........ Dang ADD........... Not to mention I had just replaced the seals in the rear axle.

I did notice the front axle lube had a yellow ish translucent tint to it. I realized there was some moisture in it. I was going to make sure the vent hose on top the axle was not comprimised. But it is extremely hard to access it.

I have always fill to the hole in many many of vehicles, never an issue

Same here. When I worked in shops decades in the past, I never followed any instructions. Pulled covers, clean/RTV slap covers on, then fill. Never had any come backs. When I do any work on cars at home now. I try to let RTV set at least overnight.

2019 5.7L Tundra SR5 Sport 78,700 miles on truck.
Out: unknown but state of the full magnet suggested it may have been the first service. Oil didn't look bad though.

89 Ford F250 with Sterling 10.25 axle. I used a Mityvac to suction most of the old lube out while I was working on other stuff. There were a few grams of metal on the magnetic drain fill plug. Not the ideal way to do it but fit within the time I had available.

Out: about 5 pints of unknown black stuff

rear differential drain and fill with motorcraft 75w rear disconnect fluid
early changes are a good idea if you plan on possibly keeping the vehicle for awhile. The photo was of the PTU drain plug magnet.
Some say its silly to do early changes but there will always be breakin of parts that leaves debris which is always a good idea to remove

I was surprised that the old fluid was so dark after 27,000 miles, but no gunk on the drain plug.

Front diff: hpl 75-140
Rear diff (9.75) 75-140
T-case: mercon LV
Trans 6R80: mercon LV

Wanted hpl 75-140 in rear as tow in mountains a fair bit. Same went in front, too, purely for economy’s sake. Though am in 4x4 for long highway stretches while towing, too, so but for possible mileage hit, just as well.

Trans was harder to decide. This 6R80 has the updated solenoid body, lead frame, pass-through bush and radiator pipes, too; hate to gamble that on a flush 40k mi later to switch to hpl. Decided to put new filter and a doorman drain plug pan on and just drain/ fill with factory merxon LV every 30k going forward, filter after 90-120k more mi. These trannies are pretty tough if cared for.

Last time I changed the rear diff fluid on my Tacoma, the old fluid came out looking golden like brand new. That was after 47k miles. I thought I wasted fluid. I guess I'll go 60k before the next change.

Tundra rear differential HPL 75W90, 3.6 quarts.
How did the oil fluid look? Mileage?
Rear end services always seem to smooth out the drive train to me... Placebo effect for the win!

I lift the driver's side of our beloved Tundra to get a more complete drain. These services on a Tundra are sooooo easy.
Got Red Line in mine...

I expect this will be the last differential change I'll do for this vehicle.
