Polishing the windshield with the Dual Action

I had something on my windshield I could not get off. Some type of industrial chemical. I tried Goof Off, glass cleaner, scrubbing it and unloading my steam cleaner on it...no good. Finally I whipped out the dual action, low speed #2 setting, orange pad and medium cut "cleaner" compound...came right off fast.
Some guys on the internet suggest a purpose built glass compound but I just used what I had on hand.

The area where I polished looked so good I went on to polish the entire windshield.

The glass polishing compound is necessary for removing scratches from glass as it's so hard. Sounds like you just had a stubborn stain.

I use my da on windshields often. Use whatever cutting compound I have on hand. Does a decent job cleaning it up and making wipers work properly again.

I've never had anything on a windshield that a combination of claybar or razorblade couldn't get off.

I do that type of cleaning once a year and it keeps wiper blades working like new.

My Focus has the windshield wiper switch on a stalk on the right side that I often touch inadvertently. This has caused minor scratches on my windshield from dry wiping. When driving into direct sunlight these scratches make it very difficult to see (they magnify the sun).
I would love advice on removing fine scratches on my windshield? TIA.

Same here. It's amazing what a good clay bar treatment does for windshield wiper performance.
