Polaris/Oil Analyzers Upcharging for Fuel Dilution and Base Number?

On the samples I submit to Polaris through their Horizon app I’ve been indicating in my comments that I want GC fuel dilution and base number testing. It has not been a problem over the past 6 months with no upcharges. I want to avoid a situation where they don’t give me GC fuel dilution because they think the sample is close enough to virgin viscosity not to do it. I’ve also had them just randomly not do base number a few times. Today I got this email from Amsoil:

What gives? Is this a new policy? I asked them directly these questions a few times but seem to get a different answer depending on who I talk to at Amsoil or Polaris. The kits I purchased were labeled “OAI prepaid kit” bought from Amsoil.

Pretty sure that has been in place for as long as I've dealt with them (about 5 years). It needs to trigger their predefined low viscosity for them to test GC fuel unless it's included. Seems they were nice enough to test prior per your request.

Do you know what the criteria for them to automatically do the GC test is? and for TBN? I guess all of my samples have just lost (or started out low) enough viscosity up to now to automatically warrant the GC. Is it based on a % deviation from some particular value within the specified SAE grade or on a VOA value they probably have in their data?

I remember asking them about my 40 grade HDEO they tested & it needed to be like 11.x at 100c to trigger their GC test. Not sure on the other grades. They would know & should provide that to you if you ask about the grade you had tested. I will comment that $6.90 to add for GC isn't bad at all. I have to pay $17 to add it to a seperate lab for GC test & I've paid it twice already. Crazy I know but I won't be doing that anymore. See if it's cheaper to just buy the kid with it already included?
