Hey guys, Ive been using german castrol 0w30 for about 2-3 years now and reading the forums and such seems like it may not be the choice to use anymore now that the formulation is changed / and there are better alternatives?

Im thinking on my next oil change of switching to use either 5w30 royal purple or maybe Mobil 1 0w-40 which seems very liked around here?

A little extra info on the car, im not sure if its because the german castrol is 0w30 or not but the car just eats it up.. I have a catch can that catches alot of oil, so not sure if thats why or maybe its being burnt.

Car is a 2006 Chrysler 300 3.5L, and I am located in Toronto Canada.

Any help is appreciated and thanks for your time

my truck's oil pressure was fluctuating alot... as soon as i put in Royal Purple it stopped 5w30 it's that good!smoothed out the engine and stopped my problem

"GC" is a pretty thick 30 grade, if you are losing oil at a high rate don't use M1 or PC 0w30. I would try Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30 to see if that slows the oil loss. It is a great lube. Check your PCV system.

We don't get that stuff up here, unfortunately. As for the PCV, I would certainly agree with checking that.

I dont think the GC formulation has changed. And if it still says API SL then it certainly has not, forget the color of the bottle.........

That said, yes, you could go to the Rpyal Purple (I am one of the only users that likes RP products, did very well when i used it and i would happily use it again) and you could also use Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30.

Or Supertech 5w30 from Walmart Canada. Or Supertech 5W-20 from Walmart Canada, if you arent scared of it.

GC is good but thick, its almost a 40, so. Not bad but if you want to change it is ok.
