I took this picture during a lengthy road trip with my parents in 1990. The page with the negatives isn't labeled with location but date only but the next roll has the Niagara Falls on it just a day later. The Howe Caverns are located a bit west of Albany and would have been on our route to Niagara. Any ideas?

Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.
Are you 100% positive? Kentucky seems out of the way. Before the cave we were in Orlando. We then drove up to Acton, MA. From there we went to Niagara. The caves are somewhere between Orlando and Niagara. We did take many backroads but to Kentucky? Online pictures show colorful lighting in the Howe Caverns.

I was at the Howe Caverns about 5 years ago and they don't have as grand a space. They are worth the visit-- Take an elevator 150 feet down then walk along the underground river. Switch to a boat to finish the tour then your guide will switch off the lights via 3-way switch. Make the presentation better by screaming like a girl when they do this. There's some underground waterfall attraction nearby as well which is not part of Howe Caverns' business, but obviously the same geologic formation.

Two pics, credit my bride:

I don't remember a boat ride. It was a long walk. I think the cave was rather large with multiple chambers. From my picture I can't guess the size of that chanber. I'll have to hit up my brother and see if he was more thorough at labeling his negatives. I suppose it could have been Mammoth Caves but that's way out of the way.

I asked my brother and he has no record of it. I watched several tour videos and none showed the area shown in my picture. None of the cave videos had similarly gaudy lighting, although that could be a temporary thing. The Mammoth Cave is almost 700 miles from Niagara. With the caves one day and Niagara the day after I seriously doubt it was the Mammoth Cave. Maybe I'll ask at a spelunker forum.

Aren't there several caves open to the public in Central PA?? I seem to remember them from family driving vacas back in the day... Crystal Caverns maybe?? Now you have me curious.
