Don't think this one will be a CPO.

Probably a good sign of driving under the influence.

Yeh, three different brands of tyre. THE HORROR!

That'll kill an engine every time.

No but it gives some real incite into the thought and care from the owner. No real care because it never cost him a cent it didn't take to keep it on the road.

First thing I look at when I purchase a car is tyres. I'd expect to see matching pairs on the axles at a minimum.

Unfortunstley in the UK we are the biggest purchaser of budget tyres in the whole of Europe. Tyres are another thing that people don't want to spend money on. You regularly see 6 month old BMW 5 series, Audi A3's, Merc C classes etc wearing mismatched budget tyres.

I quite often tell people I only buy premium tyres, try to keep a car with the same tyres on all four corners and change them with around 2.5mm of tread left and get looked at like I'm insane. My Son travels in our cars so I'd only expect the best.

Well, we dunno how the "three different brands of tires" were deployed.

Could easily have been 2 axle-pairs and a mismatched spare, which could be fairly confidently predicted to compromise handling in no detectable way at all.

If that (along with an OCI of a bit over a year) constitutes a maintenance horror story for y'all, then you can evidently afford a very sheltered life,

Congratulations.

(You must have to throw away quite a lot of tyres, though).

That's a bit extreme.
I have never owned or bought a new car, and only one has a had some minor sludge.

Legal limit in the UK is 1.6mm of tread. The tyre manufacturers show their tyres performance drops off very quickly after 3mm. Seems reasonable to me to change at 2.5mm.

I've only bought three new cars(2 BMWs, 1 Mazda) and I can't say that the new cars offered any increased long-term reliability.over the used cars I've bought. With the CPO BMWs I've bought I've been able to check out the dealer service history- so neglected maintenance hasn't been an issue.

Some years ago an older woman who was my neighbor used to top up her Fiesta's engine with............................................... wait for it ............................................... olive oil.
One day it got a knock and threw a rod on the highway so hard it punched the radiator and spilled coolant everywhere too

This lady owns / ed some property where olive trees are grown so she had access to free extra virgin olive oil.

I didn't say anything about tread depth. Don't think anyone else did either.

Know what you mean. I can remember being looked at like that in the UK when I said I only buy remoulds.

(Dunno if they're still a thing?)

I think it was by someone who was trying to sell me some premium tyres.
