plastic gaskets

oh head gaskets are always some kind of metal type deal I think. sorry thought you meant intake mani gaskets.

HGs are composite -- part metal, part something else and they also have a bead of silcone around the coolant passages and that's what Dexcool attacks the silicone beads. Once the bead breaks down then the coolant escapes somewhere, air gets in and brown sludge disaster occurs.

Don't think that GM has solved the Dexcool/gasket problems, 'cause they haven't. It just takes HGs longer to dissolve than the old plastic IMGs. Shops are still replacing HGs on many high mileage GM engines.

Denial will get nothing but grief -- deny at your own risk.

Thats what i thought, the intake is the worse but also the head gaskets .

So the new cars are still installed with the same gaskets that dexcool eventually kills ?
