Just finished mowing and snapped a photo of my 22yr old Lawn-Boy and Homelite trimmer.
Mower runs like new but the wheels are getting quite sloppy.

I thought a pic of my "Green Machine" would bring a tear to Johnny's eye ...

Maybe we should have a "Post pics of your 2-stroke commercial mowers" thread.

My dad has a nice 25 y.o. John Deere aluminum deck commercial walk behind mower that has a great 2 stroke engine. In 25 years the only thing that has ever been done was a spark plug change 5 years ago. Starts on the second pull every time.

When I was a young lad, we had friends of the family who had a l-b just like the one I the pic.

We used to visit on the weekend, and of course, the mowing would need to be done.

I always though that the mower was 'weird' b/c of the way the wheels were, and the noise the engine made - always though the mower was broken!

My grandfather had one of those back in the mid 80's, I seem to recall it was awkward to use on anything but level ground and it seemed like it took about 300 pulls to get it started.

My old man had one just like that until last year. Finally broke down and got something with more power. That lawnboy was so underpowered, but it always ran great.

That's funny from my perspective, I grew up near Peterborough, ON where they used to be made and that's what every mower looked like. I can't even recall a 4 stroke mower on our street, until I was in my late teens. Even now there's lots of 20 and 30 year old lawnboys around but the china mart stamped metal deck mowers are starting to take over. I keep on putting off rebuilding my LB and it goes through summer after summer anyways...

I worked in a small engine shop when I was a teen and loved for these things to come in. The majority of the time, a no start was just a gummed up carb. So this particular day I pull the plug, laid it on the head and give the old gal a pull to check the ignition. Well she had fire. The crank case was full of fuel and when I pulled the ignition over the fuel was spit out the sparkplug hole and ignited. While unusual for this to happen normally this does not cause a problem on the 4 stroke stuff, but being a big 2 stroke with a plastic carb, you know what happened next. This thing caught fire in the shop. As I ran for the fire extinguisher one of the old hands just calmly pushed the burning mess outside and watched it burn. I returned to extinguish the blaze just to find a melted carb and tank. I got to buy a customer a new mower that day. Sorry for the long post just thought I would share the only way I know to kill a lawn boy.
