Photoshop 7 on Intel Mac?

Let me tell you how much you all have disappointed me!

I am not sure if Photoshop 7 will run on an Intel Mac or not, but if it does it will probably run slowly. Photoshop up until the upcoming Photoshop CS3 was designed for the older processors that Apple Computer used. If you have a legal Photoshop 7 program you can upgrade to Photoshop CS3 which will be compatible with the Intel Macs. The upgrade would probably cost you something like $170.00. A complete program (not an upgrade) would cost you something like $650.00. So you want to go the upgrade route.

I have been lucky. I have never had to pay the full price for Photoshop. Adobe had a deal a long time ago where I was able to get Photoshop 6 for half price. That was an Apple Macintosh version and I have just upgraded ever since. And I was also able to get Photoshop CS2 for Windows for about half price also. You also can get student discounts if you are attending college and you take some computer graphics classes.

Photoshop for many years has been THE photo editing program for professionals. Adobe Software has also recently released a new program for working on photos-Adobe Lightroom. It can organize your photos and lets you work on your photos like with Photoshop and it costs less than Photoshop. And if course their are programs that cost less than Photoshop like Photoshop Elements.

It seems most people who talk about this on the net, claim that PS7 runs just fine on the Intel Mac and that it in fact runs, due to the Core Duo, on the latter faster than it does on a G5. What supposedly does not work is stuff like PS Elements, which doesn't matter to me at all.

PS7 has enough features for my purposes. I don't want to "upgrade" to something I don't need, although I could use an English language version of Illustrator, because the Japanese one is driving me nuts. Upgrading to CS3 Standard would cost $399, but to me it's just not worth it. That PS 7 is considered to have been rendered obsolete in regard to functionality, as many claim, is preposterous. I don't want to be unnecessarily milked by Adobe.

The reason I have no attempted to install PS7 on my Mac is that I'm afraid that something will go wrong. I'm currently backing up my 30 GB of files and then I'll try. Only one way to find out!

Yes Photoshop 7 runs on Intel Macs. Have this installed on my iMac with Intel chip. You will have a performance hit due to Rosetta. The amount of RAM installed will make a difference. I am not sure I see a difference with the 2 G of RAM in my iMac.

Thanks for the confirmation. I should be fine then. I also got an iMac with 2 GB Ram. I guess we do get what we pay for.

I installed PS 7 and it runs fine, but for some reason PS 7 will not display thumbnails images for the original jpg files that were taken with any of my digital cameras, if those images were downloaded and saved in GIMPSHOP. I've been using GIMPSHOP for almost a year, so this affects a few thousand images. I'd have to open every original file in PS 7 and save it again, so that I get a thumbnail image. In GIMP and PREVIEW I do see all thumbnail images without any problem. At first I thought it's maybe because GIMP is for PC and runs via X11 (Windows System), but PS 7 is set to display thumbnail images for Mac and for Windows. I'm utterly clueless in regard to why this is happening. While it's not a huge problem (I can just look at the thumbnail images in Preview), it's inconvenient.

To clarify: in PS 7's file browser the thumbnails do show up just fine, but they do not show up anymore when I pick "File" -> "Open" to check the pictures in a folder.

If you know anybody in college you can pick up Creative Suite for pretty cheap. I believe it sells for around $1200, but the student version (which is the same as the retail version) is $170. I bought it for my G4. I just ordered a G5 and can't wait to get it. I teach courses on-line and can't wait to get the 24in screen.

By the way, you can also pick up MS Office for Mac for around $8. College prices are great if you have access to them!
