This came of a chevy truck. No idea as to the mileage on oil and filter. The oil looked well worn. Looking inside the can there may be serious air intake issue. Major crud deposits. All the bumpy stuff on the endcap is just crud. Chalk it up to another neglected engine. Date code A51703 The OCOD held up very well.

That poor engine

These statements go hand-in-hand. Check air filtration, then start with shorter interval with a good cleaning oil, and do a UOA on that oil after [my estimate] 2000 miles.

edit: I'm having more respect for Fram filters after seeing how they hold up to some of the abuse people are putting them through.

Carbon may be all that's holding that engine together. Probably time for an overhaul.

Chunks that big didn't come in the air intake. That looks like coked oil, don't know the source. If it were a Mopar 5.2 or 5.9 Magnum, I'd look for the lower intake plenum leak dumping EGR into the crankcase, but I can't think of a particular mechanism other than extreme neglect on an LS. Or is this old enough that its an SBC?
