I'm sure this has been addressed before, but Amazon website (sold and shipped by Amazon) shows the PF53 in this style:

But shipped this:

The one with a paper clip for reference of the opening around the base plate is an ecore model, which is fine for me. What I've not seen before is that opening around the fitting on the base plate. That's new to me. Would you guys run this or chunk it, and purchase one locally where you can see what you are buying.

Thanks! Filter looks fine. I can see the pleats and they are evenly spaced and tight. And it's is made in the USA. Maybe purely anecdotal but I'd think the e-cores are less restrictive than a steel tube design. I'd just not seen that design before with the opening around the fitting. I'll add it to my stash and have no worries.

The one you got is fine. It’s the same style used for the ST, some AC Delcos, Champ, even K&N filters.
Is the first pic an AC Delco Gold?

That is the same as the Champ PH2835 & SuperTech ST3614. Good filters. Not sure what you paid on Amazon, but it gives you options for comparing price.

For every application I have seen, the Supertech ST model is identical to ACDelco in every way except the paint job...sometimes the ST the same blue and other times it's white.

I would use the ST unless I get a big discount on ACDelco. Check Autozone for 6-packs of ACDelco. Every now and then, they run specials that bring the per-filter cost under $3.

Long time typical Champ Labs ecore base plate design. According to CL, the outer auxiliary plate designed to make installation easier in tough to see/reach locations. As opposed to the protruding thread boss it would be without the plate, I'd agree.

As mentioned, no worries with ecore plate shown.
