Petro Canada Supreme synthetic?

My experience with a local distributor here in Atlanta was identical when I bought four cases of Kendall GT-1 Full Synthetic. I called and they had it in stock. Timed the pick up when visiting my son an DIL since the distributor was right down the street. Two minutes after driving up, I was loading the oil in the back of my car and driving away smiling at the thought of getting a good, quality synthetic oil for $4 and pennies per quart. This will be the route I take in the future when my stash gets near depleted.

I am the same way, hate going in to stores unless I have to. I drive by three Petro Canada gas stations and have bought some from them already. There is a distributor not far from work, gonna call and price it out by the case.

My filters come from the dealer, not out of my way either.

Wasn't a hassle for me. Local fuels place carried it, was closer than CT. I called them, they brought it in, I picked it up. Was pretty simple

I can see in your situation as you invested in the 0w30 which is a limited supply at CT but the OP wants 5w30....pretty common and an abundance they can find at great prices at various stores. If I have to call anyone by phone (which I hate doing) it's already a hassle and I don't have to worry about a minimum quantity order too. I'm still relatively new here so am I missing something or is PC synthetic that special compared to PP, Quaker State Ultimate Durability, Castrol, etc. Is it comparable or better than say Castrol gold? According to the OP it's PC or nothing at all? And the price still isn't different than getting the 5L jug on special which CT should be due for their 45% off deals soon. I'm not knocking PetroCans oil as I would love to try some myself but wish I could pick it up without negotiating or ordering quanitities by phone.


Well, I have a cell phone, and the Internet, so making that one minute phone call wasn't a big deal. If that's a problem for you, which it seems like it might be, then it isn't for you.

At the price I was getting for, it was literally 1/2 the price of your normal synthetic 5w30, and there wasn't much in the way of options for 0w30 products aside from GC, as at that point in time, Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 wasn't sold up here.

My experience is sort of the opposite of what you've noted to be yours. For me, a hassle is driving up to either of our CT stores, going through the store, going to the oil section, selecting the product (if it is in stock), then going and waiting in line behind Bertha and Jim-Bob who are trying to get a refund on their Microwave that they cooked a set of silverware in while Jungle Jim picks his nose behind me and the guy behind him fills his shorts and it smells like he's eaten bad pork for the last month.

In stark contrast to that was calling Upper Canada fuels, confirming I wanted a case (12L) of the product. They called me when it was in, I swung by at my convenience with no worry about stock or lines, paid the woman, grabbed my case and was out of there.

And I saved a pile of money in the process.

I've gotten even more lazy now and ordered my latest case of oil from Amazon and it was delivered to my work (Motul 0w-30). I'll probably do the same with filters going forward.

I hate stores. I'm not a people person and I avoid immersing myself in the pool of "public" whenever possible. The only time I AM willing to deal with that is when they've got one of the sales you've noted on where I can get AFE 0w30 at a bargain price or they've got ammo on sale.

No quote, call 'em up and ask how much a case of whatever you want is. They'll bring in a 4x4 or a 12L case. IIRC, the 4x4 was a TOUCH cheaper but I preferred the 12L case for convenience.

They have a distributor link on their website IIRC, my local was Upper Canada Fuels. I called them, they told me the price, I ordered the case, and then I picked it up. Took a couple days to come in.

There are new Pet-Can oils just rolled out.
Duron 5W30 CJ-4/SN that looks like their Dexos
approved 5W30, except in a HDMO.
Also 15W40 and 20W50 Duron Classic aimed at the
ZDDP/Phosphorus crowd with missing or removed
emission equipment from their vehicles.

Additive packages will differ between CJ-4/SM
and CJ-4/SN, and between XW30s and XW40s.

Each having different SAPS limits.

Listen to OVERKILL and don't overcomplicate the matter. The gas station price is competitive with CT and Walmart regular prices, which means it's still too high. Call the distributor, using the link OVERKILL provided, or check the yellow pages, or even ask someone at your closest Petro-Canada who the local distributor is, since they do have to buy oil and washer fluid from Petro-Canada.

Don't worry too much about the price. Bulk lube prices have not gone up much over the past few years. You will likely have to buy a case - they're not likely to sell you five litres at a time, for instance. It'll be a 4x4L or a 12x1L, as already indicated.

If you're lucky, your closest distributor will also be a warehouse, which means no ordering. When I buy something at Imperial Oil, if they don't have it in stock, it likely doesn't exist in western Canada. I walk into the office, tell them what I want and pay for it, they call the guy in the warehouse, who meets me at the warehouse door and loads me up. Yes, it is amusing to pull up to a loading dock in a G37.

Yep, for SN/GF-5 stuff, it's hard to beat the Shell (Formula Shell) or Petro-Canada distributors. If you need a dexos1 5w30, Petro-Canada's Supreme Synthetic is the most cost effective example I can thing of, aside from hunting for sales, which I don't like doing. Heck, another reasonable place is the Wholesale Club, which usually has dexos1 Quaker State Ultimate Durability in 5w30 for $40 a jug. That's not fantastic, but it's better than the $50+ regular prices elsewhere.

The distributors are nice because you get exactly what you want, without worrying about the stock being picked through by someone else. As I've said before, I don't feel like racing to a Canadian Tire on a Friday morning to compete with the old farts buying up the oil special, leaving none for even the first afternoon.

I stocked up back when c.r4ppy tire had sales, like 8 big juggs

Tho distributors are somewhat far from my place

That's why you buy at bulk at a distributor, so you don't have to go there often.

For me, two of the distributors are close to a couple of my places of business, so they're actually more convenient than Canadian Tire.
