I am having a bit on analysis paralysis on the oil for my next oil change. I am leaning towards the Duron UHP 10w40 over the 0w40 for my 2014 Ram with the 6.7 Cummins. I live in northern Canada so the -45 pour point is an actual consideration for me. If the price was comparable is the 0w40 that much better looking at the chart below? I was running Rotella 5w40 but the dealer I was going to has jacked their pricing so much that I am now going to just do my own in the shop at work.

PC under reports their HTHS numbers. Magically one year the 15w40s and 10w40s dropped from 4.4 and 4.3 to 4.1.
According to the tear-off booklets stuck to the jugs and pails the CK-4 offerings share the same additive chemistry and treat rates.
Phosphorus shows the CK-4 limit of 1,200.
It appears to be a Lubrizol product, but only your hair dresser knows for sure.

10w40 if you could still plug in the block heater, but 5 or 0 if you couldn’t plug in would definitely be better. Your batteries will thank you later.

You can source Petro-Canada Duron from Grainger Canada’s website. They sell it by the case and you can have it shipped or pick it up at the store.

The 0w40 Diesel motor oil has a kinematic viscosity of 14.5 @100 C, a pore point of -45 C and is rated API CK4/SN, MA2.

😬

$55 a jug - no I think I will keep looking. Grainger is famous for out to lunch pricing.

If $55 CDN is too steep, watch for a sale at Canadian Tire and get Rotella T6 Synthetic 0w40. A lot of big rigs run this in northern Canada, like on the Dempster highway to Inuvik.
I went with this stuff as I get employee pricing on it, even over the counter it is $36 a jug. This oil is made by Shell, but different specs than Rotella.
On a side note our local CrapTire is awful for anything being in stock.

If you have a fuels depot nearby that sells Petro-Canada, you should be able to get it through them and the pricing is generally very good. That's where I bought it when I was using their lubes.
Sounds simple enough, but they are not open on weekends, and each time I went there on my lunch break the doors were locked. I tried calling and was assured they were open. I made several attempts to part with my money but it must not be the right stuff.
At some point you have to just do business with places that actually want your dollars.

Where are you located? I haven’t seen Rotella shortages at CT since Covid and that was in Yellowknife. Rotella on sale when rebates are going on is hard to beat for price per litre.

Grande Prairie
Was at CT last night and they had 1 4L jug of 5w40 Rotella on the shelf. None on a different display either.

I looked on their website when you sent this and it said they had a bunch of 5L jugs. I see in the flyer for this Friday the pails are going on sale again if that interests you. Additional rebate also goes on for awhile yet

Have you ever tried to get someone to get stock that might be in the warehouse somewhere? Maybe your local CT is good, mine is not.

Probably the owner has decided that they just want to sell what's in stock? Or the parts counter people are lazy at your store? I can get stuff ordered at mine, but sometimes it takes a while to come in, and they won't call right away.
