A lubricant exhibiting enhanced properties, including improved load-carrying capacity and wear reduction, includes synthetic and/or mineral oil as a major ingredient, and a performance-enhancing amount of vegetable oil. In addition to providing improved performance characteristics, the vegetable oil additive reduces the need for certain other additives, including pour point depressants and viscosity index improvers, thereby simultaneously lowering the overall cost of the lubricant.

Coolness, get rid of the VIIs (it's why I'm using Amsoil ACD):

Because there are no viscosity index improver additives in the formulation, the high shear viscosity requirement is easily met. The significance of this formulation is the possibility of providing a fully formulated multi-grade engine oil that does not contain any viscosity index improver additives that could degrade under high shear conditions.

Thanks for the link. Good patent. Let's find some deodorized corn oil, that Vanlube 818D additive and start adding it to motor oils. It would be fun to experiment with it on a lawnmower engine. LOL
