Perfectly Safe Brush??

The problem with brushes and sponges is that they hold dirt. I've used a microfiber mitt for many years. I used the 2 bucket method: 1 bucket has the soap and and the other has water only. After I wash a small section of the car I dunk the mitt into water from the water only bucket. I then remove the mitt and squeeze out the water over the ground and not back into the water only bucket.

The point I want to understand is the contact points. He is stating his brush does not hold dirty like a microfiber, it is true. But microfibers are much softer compared to his brush with pointy ends. How does that not marr the paint is mind blowing.

Another TOTALLY USELESS YouTube video.

Subscribe to the History Channel on TV (or similar) . It's a better use of screen time.

I used a brush for many years and it never marred or swirled the finish, it was made of boar's hair and the tips were "flagged" similar to this brush. Basically how it works is the tips were not rigid enough to contact the paint directly, ie; at a 90° angle. Rather, they lay down and would "paint" the surface with the softer sides of the tips. The rest of the bristles were not flagged and remained more rigid to keep the brush intact and not flop around. Still wasn't stiff enough for a proper contact wash as the bristles weren't strong enough to cut road film effectively unless you bore down on it to have the more rigid part of the bristles contact the finish. Thats where marring would take place. The secret to using these type of brushes is to wash with the tips and use little to no pressure. Hard to do and get the finish clean. I've since switched to a sheepswool mitt for a contact wash AFTER a foam dwell and rinse.

Since I now own all tall vehicles, I had to get something to wash the roof with without having to do it on a ladder. I can stand on the side steps or in the bed with the Canyon, but the CX50 is a different story.

A brush will never touch a car of mine again. I used a brush to wash the Canyon early in my ownership, and spent the entire next Saturday doing paint correction.

Liking this so far.

It’s a flag tipped brush that is softer than most. I have one. I use it to wash cars that are already heavily swirled. 😆
