Percentage of vehicles leased continues to fall.

With a shortage of new cars, people who usually lease every 3 years may just be keeping the car they have rather than trying to shop for a new one.

Here is a screen shot of some data on leasing vehicles in the USA. It’s now below 25%. Opinions?
Overpriced selling price? production shortage reduced? that means used car price will fall so they need to lease for more, so that means it is easier to finance for purchase.

Maybe people are getting wise.
I'm just gonna spit out a from the hip definite NO on that one.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps loans are now stretched so far out, that's made some choose loans over leases.

Low inventory and anticipated higher rates have caused lease deals to vanish.

Of course there's approx $40B in COVID relief fraud which has allowed a lot of customers to pay cash.

Yep, they hand out cash like it was Halloween candy and some people became instant millionaires.

Leasing almost always is never smart for the common human. From retired, to working, in between....never. Own a biz? MAYBE.

Just my two cahookian pesettas.
Leasing actually works for certain people. With a lease you get more "vehicle " for a set payment amount. Alot of realtors and doctors lease their vehicles. My mom worked for a surgeon who always leases his vehicles. If he were to break his hands working on a vehicle he couldn't perform surgery. It is an interesting article

In our case, it's work from home. Fiance' leased a new 2019 Sentra in January 2020 then in March of 2020 turned into permanent work from home. The car now has 15000 miles on it - all my miles. I've come to like the car so I'm just going to cut a check for it in two months. No point in leasing a new car to have something brand new and under warranty when you have a ton of other vehicles sitting around.

It might be different if we were both commuting to work every day and needed something new
