As if more proof is needed, I was watching "Wheel of Fortune" last night and a dude called out a letter that was already on the board.

I'd cut this one a bit of slack - lets see, on National TV, in front of an audience, trying to beat out others to win megabucks...yeah, I might make screw-up like this....

...and I ain't no dummy.

Globally, people probably are getting dumber, since the industrial nations attract all the best and brightest from around the world, and people here tend to have very few kids. But I can't complain, since it means I'm getting smarter, relatively speaking.

The worst part about that is there is actually a board off the side of the stage with the available letters lit up.

In fifth grade, I think the most important things I learned were calculating different dimensions of circles using Pi and the basics of air pressure and Bernoulli's principle.

Yes..5th grade. I recall with fondness Principles of Steam and Thermal Dynamics... along with Fundamentals of Euclidean geometry. I missed out on Astrophysics. That was for the geeks.

The beginning of the Mike Judge move 'Idiocracy' is spot on. The dumb people have lots of kids while the smart ones have few, if any. When the main character wakes up from being in a preserving chamber for a couple hundred years, he finds that everybody is an idiot and he's the smartest man in the world. Good concept, but the movie was kind of a dud.

What is this "getting" stuff?

I work with rocket scientists most of the day (NOT kidding)....some are young. I guess some people make it through the system unscathed.

Some people have found purpose in life. The lady at the bank, many of my customers, guys at church.

But some people just pose their whole life through - and it seems the system props this stuff up. Can't have any judgment, or scale or goals.....let alone morals or ethics....or just a modicum of hard work. Everybody is owed!
