Any chance casino gambling in Las Vegas will be shrunken to sports book only?

I took an Uber from the airport to an in-town rental place last time I visited. Saved substantially over airport rental rates.

The Uber airport concession fee made even the ride out more than 2x the ride back. Everywhere's a ripoff. The resort fees are as much as the hotel rooms.

Place I stayed at had an outdoor pool. The building was all glass and reflecting down at me and it was like there were two suns, in July to top it all off.

Fail to see how it's fun.
Sounds like you were at the Vdara and its Death Ray. https://www.businessinsider.com/the...l-is-still-burning-people-in-las-vegas-2016-6

We like the pool at Red Rock, which is way off Strip on the western edge side of town. Easy to get a comfortable chair, lots of umbrellas, drinks are not too bad, a diverse mix of families with kids, Europeans, and nice scenery.

Last time we were in Vegas was last summer and it was 120°F which set a record for hottest temperature ever recorded in Vegas. 120°F is a bit much. LOL.

Who me? Not sure you are being sincere or sarcastic.......... I would not say I am an historian, but grew up in the late 70s and early 80s, a turbulent and prosperous time. My dad, aunt and uncle was all executives, most notably, my Aunt, who was exec manager of the Horseshoe in Bossier City, but was an executive at a few hotels in Vegas. My Uncle was exec manager of Harrahs in Bossier, and LV, my dad was the first executive casino host in Las Vegas, for Holiday Casino, which became what we now know as Harrah's. I know more than the average bear, because I was there, not because I read it somewhere. At one point or the other, I met Tony Spilotoro, Lefty Rosenthal, and several others that you would not know, simply because of who my dad was.

to your question........

I remember being present at 2, but there were more.

Who knows, If I had to guess it would be somewhere quiet.

That might be the case sometimes, especially now, as it is hard to say why people do what they do. There is no doubt that part of it is shame. Today, it would be much harder to jump, back in the day, people would go on the rooftop for several reasons....and will leave it at that.

Are you from LV?
Not hard at all. The Cosmopolitan has balconies in many of the rooms which is why I like to stay there when I visit, not to jump though.

Completely sincere and respectful. These tragedies can be statistics or drawn from personal experience.
Your descriptions are great...growing up in the 'hospitality industry'.
While gambling isn't my thing, I can appreciate the hotels, restaurants, theaters, shops, exhibitions and support industries.

edit: I visited LV in 1992. Two overnights which began a tour of the High Southwest. I'd recommend it to anyone.
I've been back.
A greeter, somewhere, explained how you exit your car and let the attendant park it at big hotels and casinos. It was so busy, you'd have to catch up to the kid to tip him.
Kid in tow..I tipped in 50 cent pieces.

I thought the strip was always where you went to be entertained, and off strip was where you went to gamble. Someone told me that years ago. I used to go to Vegas often - back when trade shows were a big thing. I haven't been there in maybe 20 years?

I never gambled and I'm not a big drinker. That, and being a Cali boy I never had much love for Vegas.

But... Sue and I were there last year and stayed at the Bellaggio. We had a great time watching people while walking around buzzed on something. Had some great meals. $$$$ We went to the Sphere and that was nice too.

Lots of things to see while walking around outside. It's fun watching interesting people come and go to the hotel. If one has the money to go to Vegas, do it. Vegas is like no other place on the planet. No matter what you end up doing, go with an open mind and enjoy yourself.

The Las Vegas strip isn't in Las Vegas. It's in a Paradise, NV. But the mailing address is Las Vegas, NV. Weird. Downtown Las Vegas is Las Vegas.

Most of it is Paradise. Some in Winchester. Depending on who you ask, some is actually within the Las Vegas city limits like the Strat. I don't know if there's any official definition of the Las Vegas Strip, and Las Vegas Blvd extends further north and south of what anyone would reasonably consider The Strip.

It can be somewhat transparent, especially with one big metro police department covering the city of Las Vegas and all unincorporated areas of Clark County.

And and for those rooms you have to sign a waiver I am sure.....somewhere in the rental agreement. Next time you are there try to get on the roof. There is a difference from jumping from a balcony you rent, and jumping from the hotel building, liability wise of course.

We never knowingly signed a waiver when we stayed at the Cosmo in a balcony room. The process was the same was when we stayed in a non balcony room.

Ok. Try getting on the roof. Things may be different now. Try finding a swan dive area in a common area of the casino or hotel, not linked to a rented room. Not worth arguing about.

There was talk that they balconies were going to be closed off to guests because too many johns were getting locked out on their balcony and robbed by prostitutes.

Arizona has I think from my sister and mom 30 plys year drivers licenses. The casino is owned by one of the native American tribe. My moms driver's license is a little faded but very legible. They claimed due to the picture being over 10 years old they couldn't take her driver's license. My mom whipped out her hospital ID from the va which is a governor issued document again nope. My mom luckily had her passport and they rolled their eyes and said "ok fine". They really didn't want to pay out.
The Native American casinos in California have a reputation of refusing to pay winnings by claiming every winner "cheated". Since those casinos are on reservations, fighting them in court is a problem.

I've had a situation where I hit a side bet on 3 card poker and the had to correct the dealer to pay me. I was making a bet that wasn't common and the dealers are often on autopilot and not paying attention to out of the ordinary things. If your neighbor was loud and annoying, I can see him getting backed off the table. If he wasn't, I don't understand why the pit boss would back him off.

Hits over $1200 trigger a hand-pay and you need to provide ID for tax purposes. Sometimes that takes time if it's your first hand-pay and you're not on file at the casino. What were the details of them not wanting to pay out the $1350?

These are in Arizona but my mom got her money finally.

Why would they put a lock on a balcony on the high rise? Even apartment balcony can be trouble if someone lock their roommates out on the balcony as pranks.

I would love to see all legalized Casinos across the country vanish.
I would love to see all legalized Pot Shops across our country vanish
Like prohibition, it is very difficult to enforce laws against human nature. Usually that just pushes those into the hands of criminals and make it harder to protect the non criminals.

People from the next room could daredevil over the glass wall and onto your balcony.
