My shop put a Pentius UltraFLOW oil filter on the GP when they changed the oil pan gasket a little while back. The oil, Valvoline MaxLife NextGen 5W-30, and filter currently have about 4.5 months and 6,000 miles on them and the OLM reads 39% remaining. I was planning on running the OLM down to 10% (so about 3,000 more/9,000 total miles) and sending a sample in for a UOA with TBN and TAN in order to see how long I can stretch the OCI using this synthetic blend oil as I have three more 5 qt jugs of it, but am wondering if I should change now due to the mileage on the filter. Pentius' website claims that their filters "are manufactured to meet or exceed original equipment (OEM) specifications", so should it be able to stand up to the full OCI following the OLM?

As an aside, I have a Bosch Premium filter ready for the next round in order to give me more confidence in having full protection out to 10,000 miles and I will probably go with a Fram ToughGuard after that.

If your engine is pretty clean inside, I'd say the filter on it now should be fine to ~9K. Since you've put ~6K miles on it in 4.5 months it must get a lot of highway miles, that helps keep the engine clean and also helps to stretch out the filter interval.

Since we don't have any idea how well it works, is made in China, and looks similar to the give-away DriveWorks oil change specials (the ones where a Fram TG is considered an upgrade to this filter), I would not go past 4,000-5,000 miles on my car.

I'm pretty sure that you, like me, would not have selected the Pentius as a first choice.
I'm pretty sure that if they really were prone to failure, the shop that installed it would have heard about it and stopped using them in customer cars.
I'm also pretty sure that running it another 3K is no cause for concern.
The few Chinese made oil filters I've actually looked at appear to be pretty well made with nice heavy cans.

Decided to change it, for peace of mind and because it has been a while since I have had the opportunity to turn a wrench on one of my vehicles, and did so this evening. I plan on cutting open the filter and will post pics in a new thread.
