I purchased two cases of Pentius PLXL filters from Amazon just recently.

I pulled a sample from each case for inspection. Everything appears to be in good order.

For my F350 7.3 gasser: PLXL2, Made in Korea, LEAK-TESTED 17MHM2840

For my Mustang Coyote: PLXL10575, Made in PRC, 10575 A880 40525

Any guidance on deciphering the date codes, or does it even matter?

Looks like they possibly have a slightly modified label and brand new base plate design on that PRC 10575 . First one I have seen out of China.

Here is the previous design and you can see Korea on there where as yours looks like it says Pentius USA.

Date codes on these and the PGI made filters (similar date code format) are a bit of a mystery. The "17" in 17MHM2840 would seem to be the year 2017 based on others seen with "23", "24" and "25" leading in the date code. Wonder if they are 2017 made filters.

The "A880 40525" date code is cryptic. The "40525" could be the 52nd day of 2024, but who knows? 🤷‍♂️

40525 maybe meaning 4th day of the 5th month 2025? So, May 4th this year, maybe.

Should I be concerned if these are 8 years old? I could always send them back.

I'd think if that system was used, there would have to be 2 places for the day of the month field. So it would be DDMMYY or 040525 instead of 40525.

I'd try to contact Pentius and ask them if they were make in 2017 like the date code may indicate. Also ask them if using them would be OK. Could cut one open to look inside, but then you couldn't send them all back. Maybe Pentius will send you a case of new ones. 🤷‍♂️

I just checked some that I have of the PLXL.. I have been using these for years and every code afaik has started with the 17MHM... The two I have right now are 17MHM2240.

Maybe, maybe not. Since it’s a single digit day, maybe it was just DMMYY. No need to put the leading 0 and costs money to print.

The machine would have to be designed to do double digit days, so it would have to be able to cover all days with DDMMYY format. If anyone can get hold of Pentius, they might give the secret decoder ring, lol.

Yes but in the interest of saving money or whatever other reason, there’s no reason to print a leading 0 on a single digit day at the front.

Yeah, gotta save 25 cents worth of ink a year. 🙃 Then when the day becomes two digits, the new hire guy uses a Sharpie to put the other day digit on the filter, but there would have to be a blank space for that 2nd digit to start with. 😄 🃏
