My vehicle uses a quart of oil every 2500 miles or so. I just topped off the oil. I wanted to go 8000 miles on this oci. I was chosen to participate in the Pennzoil used oil analysis program. In 2500 miles, I should be down a quart and I will be at about 7k on the OCI. Should I just pull a sample at that time, with it a quart low and change the oil? Should I top off a quart and wait another 1k miles to sample? Perhaps I should top off, pull a sample in about a thousand miles, and continue to run the OCI up to about 9k? Will being a quart or pulling a sample too soon after topping off skew the UOA? 2005 Chrysler T&C, 3.8. Current fill is 3 qts Valvoline MaxLife Syn Blend/2 qts Napa Full Synthetic. It has been topped off twice, once with Napa Full Synthetic and once with MaxLife Syn Blend. What would you do?

And out of curiosity, does Pennzoil want to do used oil analysis that are Valvoline/Napa blends? I assumed it was for Pennzoil samples. Just wondering.

They do the first UOA on whatever oil you have in the car as benchmark to compare their oil to. They will pay for it. Not TBN though, you can pay for out of pocket 10 bucks if you wanna get it done. UOA done by Blackstone.
AFTER your first UOA, you send in the pennzoil sample for analysis. They also provide a second oil change and UOA to back up the data of the previous results.

Ask Pennzoil what they want you to do after all it's their thing and they do know best...
I would also take a sample and send it to another totally different lab at the same time just to see if there is any difference in what the two labs say... Save some of the oil just in case there is a difference to send another sample just to make sure not that i don't believe but....

Do exactly what you would do normally, do not risk engine damage for the sake of a used oil analysis. Take the used oil analysis when you change the oil and not that you added a qt that's all.

I signed up for the program when I sent in a rebate form for 2 jugs of PUP for my Ford. Hopefully I will get free used oil analysis!

Gena Fishbeck mentioned to someone on this forum that they should sign up for the program based on their driving characteristics. That was the first I had heard of the program. I PM'd Gena and asked to be a part of the program. I explained the extremes that my vehicle goes through, both in terms of our driving habits and extreme weather conditions. I promptly received my kit. Will soon send in my first UOA. After another thousand miles or so, I will put in the PUP and then go from there. Great program.
