Should I Change fitler and top off?

Today I am thinking about taking a sample for a UOA and just changing the filter and topping off. I have about 5300 miles on a Amsoil SDF57 and the ASL 5W30. I have been doing some off roading lately and alot of city miles. I have napa gold filters and plenty of GC (gold and Green) in my stash. I could just slap on a napa gold, pull the sample, and top off with a quart of amsoil TSO 0w30 and wait for the lab results... I dunno. Its hard to keep the amsoil in there when I have GC on deck....

your advice fellas?

JAKE: The TBN for this oil was 3.0 so you still have adequate active additive in the oil after the 5,200
miles oil use run. Universal averages show typical wear metals for an oil from this type of engine after
about 3,690 miles run on the oil. Your oil run was longer, but we found all wear at around average
levels and in the correct balance to show normal mechanical parts inside. Air and oil filtration appear
normal. This was 5W/30 synthetic engine oil with no gas, moisture or anti-freeze in it. Either Mobil or
Amsoil will work equally as well. Try 6,000 miles next sample.

First - why are you fearful of M1 or Amsoil not being able to go 10,000 miles?

Second - I read your UOA with M1, with numbers that good why would you even try another oil? M1 looked perfect.

You need to stop "slapping" oil filters in and relax, todays oils are so good there is little need to worry.

Go see a ball game, take in a movie, enjoy life!

I would basically resist the urge and do nothing at all until the lab results come back. Unless your off-roading was in very serious conditions and you sucked in a lot of dirt, the ASL should be fine. My advice is just to wait for the lab results.

Why is it so hard to keep Amsoil in there? Indeed, relax. Yes, also agree - what's the rush to GC?

Well, much to my total dismay, when I collected my sample, I dropped the drain plug......
Soo... Since I was just planning on getting a sample and topping off, I only had 1 quart of oil on me.

I had a friend drive me to the store, and now its got 4 quarts M1 5W30 and one quart 0W30 Amsoil..hehe

Oh well, I still got a good sample and its now got a nice pretty new black napa gold filter on it!
