I hate to say this, but I like the name "Pennzoil Ultra". It sounds awesome and superior! Since I don't have any top up left for my Stratus, it'll be going in in 8K if its available here in Canada. Otherwise i'd probably drive down to Bellingham Walmart to pick it up, and stop at the drive-in burger shack at the same time.

Then when someone asks me what oil I'm using, I can say proudly, "PENNZOIL ULTRA!" And everyone's faces will drop in awe, and applaud!

Seriously though, they really did their research and found the right word for this blend. I like it, compared to "Pennzoil Supreme" or "Pennzoil Platinum +2/+4", or "Pennzoil Iridium / Fusion" :D

Is there a reason the PDS says "Exceeds the engine protection requirements of ILSAC GF-5 (2010)" but then lists all the grades as GF-4?

Well, it does meet Honda HTO-06 which is a high temperature deposit test... I know it relates to a turbo, but it has to be a plus.

Is the answer to who Pennzoil is targting this oil at in this statement from the data sheet Johny provided? Do other Pennzoil engine oils not make the same application claim?

Maybe this oil is targeted at engines that have direct injection and helping resolve the problem of deposit build up on the intake valves with these engines from the PCV system. These DI engines do not get their intake valves washed with fuel to clean of the deposits coming from the PCV system. This oil may help control that deposit build up? If you do not run a DI engine, it may not be much benefit over PP. But I expect we will see a lot more DI engines in the future and Pennzoil may be targeting this product towards them. Any thoughts on this?

Another strong possibility as others suggested is Pennzoil just needs a product to position against Castrol Edge at that price point.

This is exactly what it is, It's not an answere to edge. Edge sales have been very small compared to PP of MEP. I would assume we wont see an EP product from pens until the market gets more flooded and consumers actually use an EP to their full potential. It take Amsoil a thousands of reps to try and get people to buy into Extended OCI and it still is an everyday fight. Even consumers from BITOG won't go beyond 15k with a product that promises 25k OCI.

On this not I have seen and there are some posted UOA with PP with 10k on them. SOPUS may not reccomend it but their products have lived way beyond said potential. IMO ultra having the esters in it just puts Pens that far above everyone else. It also shows they are a leader and don't just follow what every other company is doing.

PP has been among the best oils you can buy over the last several years. I hold their oils in high regard.

Pretty aggressive to role out a GF-5 oil this early. I thought PP was already excellent. It is excellent.
 
I don't know, with the storms over here we are rather slow at the shop. I think I will send our intern out tomorrow afternoon to search for it.

I want a VOA ASAP
 
I still want to see pictures of the bottle....8 pages with no pictures is just not right.

Maybe I'll throw all that Havoline 5w30 I bought in the dumpster for this new oil.... You guys crack me up.

from that description and over 11% NOACK in 10w30, maybe it has something that evaporates and continues to clean, like PEA in the gas. somehow i don't think PEA would play well in an oil, so what do you think it is?

If you have 0 sludge, it won't matter. I doubt platinum will create any more sludge than ultra will in a 10k mile OCI
