Pennzoil Ultra Platinum ?

My local Walmart had Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 back towards the end of last fall. I figured I would try it in my 99 Camry 5S. I noticed the car ran slightly quieter in comparison to Mobil 1 Extended Performance. However, the biggest difference was how light the oil was on the dipstick. After 2200 miles I had the valve cover gasket and numerous seals replaced. My mechanic went ahead and changed the oil, which wasn't a bad idea. But, I would have really liked to have kept that oil in there since I can't seem to find it anywhere. I did find the 1quart bottles of SRT 0-40 at Auto Zone for $2. That went into another car that consumes oil. I beat myself up for not buying some 5quart jugs.

It's a top end product, like gold bottle Edge, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, and so forth. They just need an extended OCI warranty like the competition.

NOACK for Pennzoil Ultra Platium 10w30 is 5.7.

My Hemi was always noisy on PUP. Never had a used oil analysis performed so I can comment on its performance but the valve train was a touch loud for my liking.

Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w30 OCI *IN PROGRESS*
I put in PUP, 5 quart OCI, just a few days before new years day. This oil CLEANS like a mother. Cleans the pistons. Does stuff the Valvoline I used prior to this has no clue about. For these 2 months, the FE has been sparkling. First +4 then down to +2 and now about the same and it just now subsided and the simmer has just now settled. I am glad I bought 6 bottles cause the extra bottle is needed for the makeup oil due to cleaning and I am happy to report that it has used about .5 quarts for makeup! CLEAN!! Something the Valvoline never did. I am excited about the completion of this OCI!! I wrote down the miles displayed on the ODO on my oil change receipt and I will report those to you all but guessing by the # of months (almost 3 months come march) I would guess I Am more the half way done!! (10k-ish OCI) this goo is better then "doing the dew"!!

I'm currently using Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w30 in two of my three vehicles. Next OCI for my 08 Liberty and all three will get getting Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w30. I got a great deal on 9 5 quart jugs of it. When I need more Walmart sells it online for $27.97 for a 5 quart jug, shipped free if you spend $50. Not a bad deal imo.

I hope there's pics of the pistons on Valvoline versus Penz...that would really help to demonstrate the effect.

You took them out and checked?

No need to do that. You can put a camera down the spark plug hole. Not sure if that's what this guy did or not, though...

I am guaranteeing the advanced cleaning of the Pennzoil ULTA platinum due to the makeup oil needed so far in 4k of an 8k-ish OCI this rig has embarked on!

How is the cleanliness of the piston top (that shouldn't see any appreciable oil unless the valve seals or rings are buggered) going to tell you anything about the oil "cleaning"?

The ring land area is where any improvement would occur in terms of piston cleanliness and that would require disassembly to verify.

So, if an engine consumes oil, this correlates to that oil's cleaning capabilities? I think I now have officially heard everything.

If anything, I thought it might imply sludging - like on the Toyota's where the oil returns in the pistons sludge up and cause burning.

Probably doesn't mean much to most of you but it's worth pointing out.

XOM is an American company, Shell is not.

Shell GTL base stock is manufactured in Qatar.

I'll stick with Mobil 1, thank you very much.

Ut oh. Mobil 1 is apparently moving to GTL and guess where their plant is... okay, actually I don't think we know for sure, but the last one I read about was in Quatar as well.

Actually we don't know where their plant is, LOL!

They axed their big plant in Qatar when it went massively over budget but they had other projects in the works.

I can't find anything on their current operating GTL plant, though I know they were pursuing several of them back when they were in deep with the Qatar one.

They and CP also were working on experimental plants in the US too.

EDIT: I see your edit now after posting this

Yes, they abandoned the Qatar plant, though they still have plenty of gas operations there.

Personally, I care more about how much the money benefits the U.S. whether the company be American or foreign-owned. This is akin to the Toyota Camry made in Kentucky benefiting the U.S. economy more than the Mexican-built Ford. These days, it's too easy to say I'll just support the American company and it might even require some homework.
