Any engine that calls for 5w-20 can safely use 0w-20. My previous Civic was a 2006 that originally called for 5w-20 but I always ran 0w-20 (I had that car for ten years)
0w-20 can do everything that 5w-20 can do plus it has the benefit of being able to handle extreme cold starts better. It’s a win win. And there are a lot of great options out there that are available in 0w-20 (Mobil 1 ESP for example)

Because some auto manufacturers specify 5w20 in their manual, and owners don't know the difference and would only buy if the bottle says 5w20. Whereas Pennzoil Ultra Premium 0w20 is as good or better than pretty much any 5w20 you can find on the shelves. So they are are writing it out for those customers who would not buy that bottle without it
CX-5 runs great on Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-20 last 3 times, one more to go. Rebate was influential. See no need to run 5W-anything.
Why wouldn't they. There's no harm in using something that can pump easier especially is it's below 0 where it can be beneficial but still has the same viscosity at operating temperature. If you didn't know oil is thick when cold and thin when hot. The 5 and 20 confuses some and makes them think that it thickens up but that's how how it works.
Yeah i really think it is an unfortunate way of naming the winter grade. SAE naming really give the illusion of oil thickening as it gets hotter
