Other than the Boron level I see nothing special here.
A high TBN level does not a good oil make, it's just a high TBN level.
Blackstone unfortunately doesn't provide a 40C vis measure and therefore no VI but based on the PDS info 158 is very mediocre.

Now, for those of you that are openminded and want to see what an exceptional 20wt VOA looks like check out the VOA of Toyota's 0W-20.

Yup...and Direct Injected. DI is the main issue. Low volatility oils may reduce some of the deposits that you see on those intake valves.

I have a large stash of SynPower too, but I had planned on running Pennzoil Ultra next (currently GC is in). So is volatility the number I should be most concerned about in my application?

In a turbo engine which typically can see much higher regional temps than NA engine, I would be more concerned with HT/HS value. This Pennzoil Ultra 5w-20 oil isn't so great in that regard. GC is much better in comparison.

GC is a thick 30-weight (near 40-weight)... no kidding it's HT/HS would be higher than a 5w20. :P

Little bit of an apples to oranges comparison. Have to compare same weight oils and even then of coruse there will be different from different oil companies.

The function of the boron in Pennzoil Ultra™ formulations is one of protection for non-ferrous metals and sealing materials.

Not really. Most likely a Boron ester or phosphorylated Boron for AW and FM.
