I put pennzoil ultra 5w20 in my neighbors 2004 lincoln town car with 125,000 miles about 6 months ago oil now has 7022 miles, this car looks like it rolled out of the showroom it shines like a mirror problem is he never does anything to maintain it mechanically unless something goes wrong,, oil was not changed in 17,050 miles and that was done at the dealer with 5w30 conventional and motorcraft filter...well it looked really bad through the oil fill (lots of varnish and sludge) i changed it today and it looked a lot cleaner through the filler hole...That ultra seems to work wonders i took some pictures today and will take more when i change it in 5000 miles

those engines run good on 5W-20 it seems

would you recommend 5W-20 on older engines that call for a 10w30 or dont chance it ? (no OP gauge)

The Ford-Linc-Merc dealers down here use 5W20 Motorcraft Blend in the 04 Town Car.

Good news, I am about to make the switch in the wife's Ford. Been running PU since it came out in my last couple of Subarus and the racecars, never a disappointment.

We have heard from many users of the cleaning ability of Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra. I consider it to be one of the best for that purpose especially for the price.

You will hear about Royal Purple having good cleaning abilities too, all of these oils have robust additive packages for this job. PU gets my vote due to its add pack that also includes a healthy does of boron along with almost everything else you might want in an oil.

the price on ultra is not so good anymore and it is getting hard to find...also in most stores it seems to be old stock in the 5 quart containers..

Most of the ford dealers use 5w20 motorcraft this dealer uses either exxon mobil or motorcraft...they used 5w30 in the town car at least that is what was printed on the paperwork..
their oil is in the drums and they buy what is the best price at the time as long as the ratings are correct according to the parts manager (i know him personally)

I am having the same experience with my 2007 ford focus. i bought the car with only 20,000 miles on it, but looking at the condition of the oil and filter that were on the car, i'm guessing (as is my father) that the car had only had one oil change in its life. even though the valvetrain looked spotless, i put the PU in... and the oil is quite dirty after only 1,000 miles (i have a thread about that, started yesterday). it looks like PU cleans very nicely. great oil, and quiet on startup too, even on 0 degree F days.

Pennzoil isn't the top seller but rather Mobil is the #1 selling synthetic by far---it's not even close. Pennzoil is the #1 selling dino.

Just wanted to clarify since several members had mentioned PP and PU, both of which are synthetic. Dino is like 90% of the market so I would assume Pennzoil but honestly I have never seen a total sales chart that combined both figures. Perhaps someone here has.

That's true. I would actually go with short dino drains to follow-up the 18k run.

Anyway, I'm saving my PU stash for after a few years to maybe clean up my engine after it gets older.

Took the words right out of my keyboard.

Run pretty much any synthetic and get the same results. Ran Maxlife blend in my neighbors Chevy and clean it up pretty good. The engine wasn't horrible but wasn't up to my standards....haha.
