Pennzoil says 0w-20 or 5w-30

So I used the oil chat selector by clicking the banner ad for Pennzoil. The bot asked if it was high mileage I said yes. It said the best option is ow-20 high mileage Platinum and also suggested Platinum 5w30.

So what’s the difference between these two oils and which should I use

Acura TL 2000

The previous owner used High Mileage oil, so maybe I should continue that

Use whats on the oil cap. Easy breezy.

5w30 is a catch all oil that works almost anywhere. Your same car in Mexico or other country closer to the eupquator would recommend. 20w50. !!!

I would be tempted to run High Mileage oil if over 100k miles. I dont know if its myth or not but i was once told that using High Mileage oil ot “stop leak” only kept the seals swolen while it is in there, If you stop using it they will shrink smaller than they were and leak more than before,

BITOG. What do you say about that ?

Doofuses at VIOC insisted on using MaxLife 5W20 in my company's brand new 2015 Transit 250 3.7-it didn't burn or leak when they started using it, didn't burn or leak any when it got turned in at the end of the 100K lease. So, my opinion is, it didn't hurt anything other than the company's wallet! I got tired of showing them Valvoline's PDS showing conventional/Daily Protection 5W20 was actually a synthetic blend...

So my 1991 F-150 has a leaking rear main seal. It's got 155,000 miles on it. If I switch to "High Mileage" oil, will it leak less? And if so what's the downside?

Use either one, high mileage has a slightly higher viscosity than non high mileage. High mileage also has a higher dose of moly content, like 3 times the moly content for Pennzoil Platinum. As stated, high mileage has seal conditioners also and since your vehicle is 18 years old, it could probably benefit from high mileage oil.


I have a 2003 Acura TL type S, 236k miles, started using 5w20 Supertech a couple years ago and it starts easier than when I was using conventional 5w30 oil. It now leaks some oil also. I change my oil in all my vehicles once a year due to low mileage driving. I need to sell the Acura so I don't care about the oil leak! Don't over think it...I would suggest high mileage 5w20, or 5w30.

Make sure to stock up on whatever you choose when it’s on sale, enough for 2-3 years or so...

Ok. I bought my '93 F150 15 years ago with 180k miles. The rear main seal always seeped. No drips on the ground just annoying oil on the pan and trans. It wasn't worth pulling the trans so I left it.

Last fall I went back to Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30. The truck has about 500 miles on the OCI. Last week I was under the truck to check a PS seal I replaced for a leak. What I noticed was the oil pan and trans were completely dry (I wipe everything down when I change oil).

Downside: None

Upside: Runs smoother and quieter and better MPG (takes AT LEAST 200 miles to see results).

I DID NOT switch to M1 High Mileage because of leaks. I've lived with the RMS leak all these years but I'm happy it's gone.

I'm not saying this will work for you or anyone else but I'm happy with the results I was not expecting.
