In the 1970's, a lot of oils caused sludge b/c the VII's used then were not stable or that reat-resistant, and they broke down easily.

Mola and others on this site have said that in the 1970's, oil manufacturers sacrificed detergency for viscosity spread; so they'd be loaded with these VII's to get 10W-40 and 10W-50 oils.

However, that simply ISN'T the case today!

On the wax thing. There were sludged engines and engines that were not. Both used Pennzoil or Quaker State most likely. Otherwise it was a branded (Exxon, Mobil, Texaco) oil from the gas station.


On the "foaming". The man may have owned an early PS Ford and just happened to be using Pennzoil Long Life at the time. After so many cycles through the injectors, many oils would foam; causing rough operation. After this was found to be common... anti-foaming agents were incorporated in all HDEO's to accommodate the engine.

Remember, most people learn oils ONCE ..and if there's a bad experience (and it's not limited to oils) ..it's NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I know a guy who ran Pennzoil conventional oil in his truck several years ago. The company he worked for went out of business two months ago, and he was laid off, and is now unemployed.

A friend of mine has been running Amsoil for the last 4 years in his Toyota. Last month he had to have a root canal.

I have been using Quaker State Q-Horsey in my truck. I bought a pair of New Balance shoe and they make a squeaking sound when I walk.

There is far more to oil, than you think. Would you rather lose your job, have a root canal, or have squeaky shoes?

I've been to that one. Not very high on my list either. They had a part I needed in stock and I work over there. The one in Lakeville off Buck Hill road has been pretty good to me though.
