Pennzoil Platinum Jugs

I helped my friend remember to tilt the oil jug sideways. I said "Do you remember the movie Beerfest? Do you remember the trick with the boot? Turn it sideways and it will not spill!"

I think we need an entirely new section devoted to this topic:

"Jug Talk" - for discussion of various shapes and sizes of jugs and their advantages and disadvantages from a handling perspective. Pictures welcome.

Beerfest rules!

I found the PP jugs to be extremely difficult to use. The jug is simply too tall and the opening is too small, resulting in lots of splashing when pouring the oil into the engine. Due to the shape of the jug, the oil is filled very close to the top, so pouring from a full jug is guaranteed to make a mess. In comparison, I find the Mobil 1 jugs to be MUCH easier to use - easy pouring, no splashes at all.

Has anyone else noticed this? I think this may be a deal breaker for me - I would rather use Mobil 1 than deal with these awful PP jugs.

it sounds like you are describing an API SM-style jug. small hole... taller... the sn jugs here in the states have a slant and a bigger mouth.

Interesting. Does anyone have a pic comparing the two jugs?

No pun intended.

I just snapped this pic. It's hard to see in this photo but the PU jug does have a bigger opening. I hope this helps.

Chris, thanks, but I thought zerosoma was talking about the difference in jugs between PP SM and PP SN, not between PP and PU.

Thanks for (not) paying attention...

...not to mention my fancy cut vinegar jug (though I sometimes think this is all just a "4/1 thread"...'cept people have trouble pouring milk from Costco milk jugs!)

No worries. I don't recall there being another different bottle mold revision between the two in the pic; the newer PP jugs being just silver colored of the dark-gray? Perhaps I haven't been paying enough attention between the SM or SN PU and PP jugs; I assumed they were same molding just a different color.

Incidentally, his pics do illustrate the difference between the SM and SN jugs, at least up here. Ignoring the PP and PU labelling, the one on the left was our old style SM jug, and the one on the right is what we have now for SN.
