Hi, I have a 17 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 6.2 with a modified engine. The shop that did the work is telling me to use 5w40 ( oem is 0w20).

I was going to use Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40 but it’s not dexos approved. Is this something I should worry about? Should I go ahead with this oil or keep looking?

Dexos spec does not include 40 grade oils IIRC. Use PP if you already have it, or Quaker State Euro is rumored to be the same thing but is cheaper and available in 5 quart jugs from Wallys.

Probably best off the shelf 5W40.

Is Quaker State Euro same as Pennzoil Platinum Euro? I'm pretty sure there's some differences in viscosity and additives.

In the virgin oil analysis posts that I've seen... Quaker State oils are slightly thicker than claimed in product data sheets. Pennzoil Platinum (and Ultra Platinum) oils are signifigantly thinner than claimed in product data sheets. Differences in additives too. Possibly differences in base oils.

So I don't think they're the same. Of the two, I prefer Quaker State and (as you said) QS costs less, especially from Walmart.

So I agree with your recommendation of Quaker State Euro 5w40 and price, but don't agree that they're the same, though they do share some similarities.

Yeah that's what I was going to recommend. Quaker State Euro 5w40 available at Walmart for $23 all day long.

OP, there are synthetic blend oils that are Dexos approved. Just saying. Not sure it means too much.
