PENNZOIL : Noack Levels >

These are from DATA SHEETS at the PENNZOIL website and are for the 5w30 grades only : conventional oil ( Yellow Bottle ) > 14.7 Noack , PLATINUM > 12.5 , S.U.V. Syn-blend > 11.2 . Currently using the S.U.V. Synthetic Blend in the 2000 Chevy PRIZM ( Corolla ) w/ less consumption than when used the PLATINUM . Hopefully when go to the Conventional Motor oil be even less burning of oil , but the YELLOW BOTTLE ( dino ) containing the highest level of NOACK makes me ponder . Maybe the NOACK level causing the consumption of oil for some cars and others is juat a MYTH or ILLUSION

Your 1.8L engine is never known to be that "hot" running to begin with anyways, so NOACK volatility is irrelevant unless you mod it with nitro, run it like you stole it, WOT all the time, water jacket is not cooling effectively, running 12:1 compression ratio, etc.

For extra re-assurance, my wifey's sister in-law is running a 2000 Corolla 1.8L A/T, and guess who's doing all the maintenance?

The cooling system is fine . Just had it checked , plus the coolant and thermostat replaced at about 77,000 miles . It seems to burn oil the most when doing the motor route on the weekend , which consists of over 250 stops , little under 100 miles of driving ( very hilly terrain ) for a 4 hour period . Also , seems like the warmer it is during the route , the consumption rises with it as well . Last , read at TOYOTA Corolla Forum that many owners complain of more oil consumption as the their miles gets higher ( especially after 70 thousand miles ). Makes me wonder if it may have something to do with the V.V.T.I. .

I've got over 80k and about 1 quart every 10k miles burning. A lab which uses Corollas and most have over 250k with little burning (a few do have some leaks) so I'm not seeing folks with useage problems.

Remember that on a forum, MOST postings are either someone to sell something or complain about something.

Very few post if their car is running correctly or not using oil because thats the way its "spose" to be.

"What is Noack?" Noack is not an acronym or other abbreviation, but is the name of the person who devised the test in the 1930s. There isn't any need to write the term in all caps ("NOACK") as is common (just like writing "Mobile" for Mobil).

K. Noack's original paper appeared in Angewandt Chemie in 1936.
