Im just wondering what you all think about Pennzoil HIGH MILAGE..

Its one of the only HIGH MILAGE Engine Oils on the market that are not synthetic blend aka syn blend.

I have asked some people and they feel that its silly to put any kind of synthetic oil in a engine that has a leak.. & most people that use HIGH MILEAGE oils use them b/c they have some small leaks.

Im wondering what you all think?

The only other HIGH MILAGE oil that I have seen that is not a syn blend is Texaco aka Cheveron High Mileage Oil and Supertech High Mileage Oil.

yeah there are quite a few High mileage oils on the market and many can be found around where i am

I think lately Quakerstate Defy and Valvoline MaxLife are highly favored.

then there is the Castrol High Mileage and then the lowerend Supertech High Mileage etc.

The only high mileage I've used thats helped with leaks/consumption is Maxlife, but lately I've been wanting to try the Defy or Pennzoil H/M

i would assume the Pennzoil would be similar to the Defy, either way its a high quality oil as are all Shell oils.

Not much mention of Pennzoil High Mileage on this forum; however, Pennzoil Conventional is very popular.

I suspect Pennzoil High Mileage is the same oil as Pennzoil Conventional but with extra seal conditioners and detergents.

Which can only make it better, I think.

In my '80 Firebird FORMULA V8, I have used both DEFY and Valvoline MaxLife with success. They haven't stopped the leaks completely over the last 4 years(summers ONLY) but, they have slowed down the leaks to drips and reduced the oil consumption.

Should this car be driven year'round, these leaks may be gone, remains to be seen!

Both have made the engine smoother/quieter but the EDGE(no pun) in this catigory goes to DEFY as it is even more noticible.

Pennzoil® High Mileage Vehicle® is a Pennzoil® conventional motor oil that has been enhanced with a unique combination of special conditioning agents and additives to help stop leaks from seals and reduce the oil consumption that is typical of older, worn engines. It’s a motor oil that is specifically designed for new or late model vehicles with over 75,000 miles, to help keep the engines running clean and going strong a long time, month after month and year after year.

I use this in three of our family vehicles and it has been effective in slowing both the leaks and oil consumption.
4.0L > 14 yrs old
3.9L > 19 yrs old
5.2L > 16 yrs old
3.7L > 8 yrs old > installing Pennzoil High Mileage at next oil change
TOTO.

I used MaxLife combined with Lubro Moly Oil Saver...

A little early to make the call as I think it takes a number of miles to "work" but a member named Clevy is a huge proponent of this Lubro product and has had great success.... Search for some of his comments

As for conventional vs blend, I believe it depends mostly on your OCIs... If you're changing at 5k or less, I don't think you'd yield any benefit from the blends. But the pricing between the two are so close to each other, I'd go with whichever is on sale...

I've used Mobil Super 5000 High Mileage multiple times, and have Maxlife in my car right now. The Maxlife has slowed my leaks more than Mobil did in the past.

I would imagine its very very similar to the QS Defy, since it's the sister oil.

I used it very successfully in a pushrod V8, carburetor fueled Cadillac for almost 200 k miles. The used oil analysis are on this site, but you may have to go back a number of years to find them.
Carbs are not efficient, but I never had a fuel or wear issue with that oil.
Your application may be different.

Well it certainly isn't marketed as a syn blend but with SOPUS you're never really sure in that regard.

There is one recent UOA on here I'm aware of, it indicated the basic add pack including detergents was a ringer for Pennzoil Conventional (which is a good thing). But the Pennzoil High Mileage is thicker than Pennzoil Conventional and has extra seal conditioners in it.

The Pennzoil High Mileage is next to go in my Jeep, can't wait to get back to Pennzoil in it.

Intrigued by but not generally believing in mechanic in a can - but PZHM really worked for me. Leaking rear main in 200k+ miles Windstar completely stopped by PZHM. Quality oil with surprising results. Looking to put it in the SHO if Spring ever comes.

I ran that quite a bit for a while, it ran really well and appeared to do some visible cleaning in two different cars just looking through the fill hole. Not sure why cause a used oil analysis/VOA doesn't suggest there is a whole lot in it unless Castrol is fond of invisible goodies.

My used oil analysis I did on it was disappointing but there were multiple things going on also so I can't point a finger at just the Castrol. Haven't used it since they changed it to "Resource Conserving".

Looking forward to the Pennzoil High Mileage myself, since I've used Pennzoil conventional a lot with excellent results and the Pennzoil High Mileage is very similar but thicker.

I've used it before and didn't like it. My ride got better mileage and ran smoother on the Pennzoil High Mileage, although the Castrol might have a home in my Ford.

I agree!!!!!!!!!!

Pennzoil High Mileage and Mobil 1 High Mileage both have (better) proven track records.
