The reviewers are idiots.
It's just re-affirm my notion that internet is pretty much littered with 1/2 truths, urban legends and dittoheads in echo chambers, bobbing their heads on things that are not factual to begin with.
Just like bonzai kitten, etc. these worthless information do not go away that easily (esp. on the internet).

So the guy is an idiot for stating his past experience messing up his oil pump or is he an idiot for for saying Val and Castrol are #1 and #2. Who are any of you to say he is lying? I agree, a lot of people are still living off what happened to cars in the yesteryears, but that's their opinion. Heck, people here are always screaming Fram OCOD, but I haven't seen anyone post any FACTS where they have info of a fram destroying a engine. Don't get me wrong, the filter is badly built, but state multiple facts where engines have blown up using this filter. So I guess the Fram lovers who read this site can call some of you all idiots too right?

1: FRAM orange cans suck! Look at the way it's constructed and it costs more than better constructed filters

Both. A) I doubt it was every factually determined that his gummed up engine and ruined oil pump were caused by PYB. Rather, I'd bet that his car wasn't maintained well and that his grandfather said, "Oh, you used PYB as your last fill? That's why. It's made of wax." B) While I can appreciate an opinion, his claims of Valvoline being #1 and Castrol being #2 are just those... opinions. And they're probably brand/marketing influenced ones at that.

It's funny that this issue persists, as Shell gas has an excellent reputation.
When it comes to Oils and even just vehicle maintenance the subject is always touchy and everyone's theory's are always different.
All you need is one bad experience like the guy who has a motor that was "destroyed by Pennzoil" for him to never use it again.
I think its people sure lack of education and arrogance that causes these opinions.
What can you do though? Why even try to convince him otherwise?
Just know that you know what YOU need to know and in the end isn't that all that really matters?
