We missed it yesterday, and I am ashamed that I did. I lived in Honolulu for 3 1/2 years. It's a bid deal there. Though a little late, I mourn the loss of so many American lives on December 7th, 1941. So many were lost on the Battleships Arizona, and Utah, among others. The Death total for that day was 2,402 persons, along with 1,282 wounded. We should all observe a moment of silence and reflection for those lost.

I'm not too proud of allowing it to pass without remarking. I even saw it in the paper and noted the typo on the front page more than I did the news contained in the article.

Whenever I watch shows on PH, for some reason it just makes me really angry - such a viscious, uncalled for attack on NA.

Then I think of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and I think, 'payback sucks, eh?'

Indeed... I was in 4th grade. I was on the bus to school when the first plane hit. When we got there, it was chaos. It was on the TVs. We were locked in our classrooms for an hour while the superintendent decided what to do with us. They ended up sending us home early. I'll never forget it. Dad was stuck at work for 2 days following the incident (He worked in a Nuclear Naval training facility- where he works now actually).

I was drinking coffee watching the TV and remember seeing the towers getting hit. Then on the way to school hearing on the radio that the 2nd tower went down.

administration at my school let us watch TVs and go home early for the day.

I was very angry that day.

as far as pearl harbor goes I remembered what day it was. not many people did.

That is a difference between military conflicts and a real war. We had ships and Americans lost all the time in the Atlantic prior to the war declaration. When civilians are hurt or killed the public will stand behind retaliation. The huge numbers at once is what made it a very moving time in our history.

on morning of 9-11 I woke up late and in my groggy state i heard the newscaster repeating over and over that the military had orders to shoot all planes down in DC and in New York. That sounded confusing until i turned on the tv.

That's how it makes us feel. It was, however, a military attack. It wasn't an invasion/occupation. It surely pulled our teeth (and the Brit's) from containing Japan's expansionist activities. It was in response to our embargoes due to their invasion of China. Thank goodness our carrier fleet was out of port at the time.

It was one of those worst mistakes that they really couldn't avoid making. The West controlled all the resources.

I was in history class, 10th grade on the morning of 9-11. The teacher called me up to his desk and showed me a streaming video of the towers that he had pulled up on the computer. He asked me, "What do you think's going on here?" I answered that I thought it was the beginning of a Chinese offensive. He then showed the whole class. Of course, it later came out that it was the muslims, but I remember distinctly thinking, "This is the beginning of the third world war." That was a crazy day.

How far has the pendulum shifted? How infuriating has it become?

A few years ago a local high school football coach was fired because he named an offensive play "The Pearl Harbor" - a sneak attack.
And some do-gooder felt proud and justified for causing this.

That do-gooder should be flogged with a piece of rusty angle-iron.

Turner Classic Movies channel spent all day showing the Frank Capra propaganda films and documentaries on the 7th. It was a very interesting watch to see the old films.
