Peak All Makes All Colors

Wife's Altima was low on coolant (way low, below low mark). Bought some Peak All makes/models/colors, etc. I know some Asian engines, even though this car and mine are made in USA, are fussy about coolant.

Think this stuff is okay to top off? Both her car and my Titan have green coolant. Bottle did not have any specs on silicates OAT, etc. I would rather use Peak than Prestone.

Both her car and mine have aluminum blocks/heads, but have Iron bore liners. I cannot spend the $$$ for genuine Nissan coolant at some 20 dollars a gallon.

I have heard good things about Peak.

P.S. my dogs never see the front yard, where the vehicles are parked, so I did not get the "pet friendly" stuff.

ooops, forgot to mention that her pressure cap failed and shot coolant over the engine. Mine did that a few months ago. Nissan cheaped out with the pressure cap.
Bought new caps at Napa. Seem to work okay.

The Peak all makes is a dexclone. Despite being green I assume the Altima is a late model using extended life phosphate OAT? What is the coolant change frequency for this model? I think these two coolants are pretty similar other than the phosphate and would work together OK.

Right now, it is the original factory fill, with only about 43K on it. I plan on draining it in the next few months, but I am sure it would go for 5 years.

I was hoping that this stuff would be acceptable, before I dump it.

Nissan Manual says good for 5 years, 100K.

I would add water (or distilled water) for now if you're planning to flush the coolant in few months.

I used Prestone All Makes and Peak All Makes in '94 LS400 for more than 12 years without any problem. I used Prestone T-Flush to completely flush out the coolant every 3-4 years using tap water from garden hose.

Nissan has a new super long life coolant. My mom's 2010 comes factory filled with it.

I didnt see a year of your car but most Nissans come with Green conv. Changed at 60K and then every 30K miles after.. i used peak reg. green in my G35.. they make a special asian blend valvoline does same maker of the G-05 coolant.

if it is Nissan rated as 5 year/100K mile coolant then it must be the newer H-OAT extended life type. Dexclone would be OK but you would want to keep an eye the radiator always topped up and keep an eye on any sludging. Zerex AVF would be a better choice.

my dad's 03 nissan sentra came with a green long life coolant. I've been using prestone all makes for the past 4 yrs. other than the engine eating two headgaskets, it's been fine. (first headgasket blew with factory green coolant).

This is an 07 Altima, and I am just using this Peak for a top-off. Will be using the Zerex AVF, this summer, when I flush it out at 50K.

Thanks for the link Critic.. Her Altima has the green stuff in it now, as does my 05 Titan. I may check to see if I can find the Blue coolant at the dealer when I flush it in a few months.

I did a drain and fill with PEAK AM&M in my 04 Altima 2.5 S a couple of years ago and all is OK! What could happen?...Water pump, IMG, HG, radiator?

The already weak headgasket might blow. And the catalytic converter material may go into the engine, therefore, sandblasting it and cause complete engine failure, which is something that the older 2.5 is known for.

Just kidding. The universal coolant is probably fine if you did a near complete replacement, but the new Nissan fluid lasts longer.

I'm not saying Im a coolant guru because I'm not but IMO no one is! Its so hard to find usefull info on coolant even from the smart people on this site. The only things I know to be true is only use distilled water or a pre mixed 50/50 and oem is always a safe option. Thats all I know for sure. I had a thread a year or so ago about why even try anything other than OEM or prestone or equivolant all makes all models. I still dont get why either one of those could be the wrong choice? If many companys now have coolant that says "mixes with any coolant" and "can be used on all makes and models" I just dont have enough info to not trust that and neither do any of you IMO.

The info for why all makes is not really all makes has been given here many times. All makes is dexclone which is an OAT, and not really the best version of dexclone. It contains 2EHA and is more aggressive with some plastics. It also has a tendency to sludge with air. The coolant ingredients for most of the coolants has been listed in posts in the forum.

Of course no one could or should be expected to predict whether or not any particular application has OAT resistant gaskets or won't sludge. If your aplication was FF with an OAT or various newer HOAT and is a later model then all makes should work OK.

To be more specific in a Japanese vehicle all makes seems to work OK, but it has not been validated for seal compatibility. The sludging potential is still there. This was one of the reasons given by Asians for coming up with their own extended life formula. Generally the newer extended life asian coolant can be more suitably replaced with an all makes.

How about the pink Toyota stuff? $20 a gallon instead of Peak on sale for $5. I do like the pink, though, but not for an extra $15.

Coolant is cheap. Engines are expensive. So are radiators.

Buy an Asian coolant - Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Zerex.

Don't blow something up being cheap.
