Simple! That's because most stealerships parts counter person, or [censored] tires don't give a dime about what's going on with cars anymore.

As a matter of fact: I threatened to file a formal complaint to Nissan Canada just because one of our local stealerships parts manager didn't give a dime about what I was asking for (a 92 sentra DOHC 1.6L PVC valve, just like you, I was holding the original parts on hand when I inquire about it,and the mgr gave me similar responses).

Anywho, check out rockauto.com and see if you can find out the parts, and then make a print out and then bring it along to your stealership, and if you receive no compliance, threaten to being this matter up to Ford Canada and see what happens.

Q.

This thread brought back fond memories..... I had the same out of body experience trying to get the correct pcv valve for a 2002 Ford Escort from the dealer. Seems like their parts numbering system is out of sync. with the car models. I had to take the old one in so they could match it up.

Strange.

the PCV valve comes off the strainer and then goes up to the air cleaner assembly right? if thats the one i am thinking of, the valve isnt available from the dealer seperately, its only available in an updated hose assembly. the part number isnt for a PCV valve either which is why the listing is different.

Ask for an 'Escort' for that year, or a 'Contour', when at the parts store. The computer files are often simplified.
Match it up to make sure.

I guess nowadays PCV valve is very reliable, most of it just need cleaning and can be in service for long time.
Most of the car part stockist I ask about this, also say very seldom people changing this nowadays.

Try going into a Honda dealer and ask for a auto trans filter for an 04 accord V6. They will swear up and down there isn't one until you show them the filter on the parts book page.

OTOH, I have never needed to replace a PCV valve on any thing. go figure

I have a 98 ZX2 with that engine (VIN 3). My notes show the following two numbers for the PCV valve at the auto parts store: EV224 & FV349.

looking at work, the valve is available separate, however, we usually sell the hose assembly as it is very common for that to crack and create a fairly large vacuum leak.

Anytime I look for parts for my '97 SHO I always compare it to the 3.0L V6s too. I know what parts are common and those that aren't.
