First off, I'm not a Paula Deen fan. I've never watched one of her shows nor owned any of her products. However, I have issues with what is going on with her over the past week or so but I'm not sure I can explain my thoughts efficiently. How far back to we go in a person's life to look for a miscellaneous comment(s) that might hurt an individual or ethnic group? I'm sure I've said things in the past, in the heat of the moment, that might be considered insensitive to some people. Grant it, the comments were not recorded on television or via audio tape...which is the same with Ms. Deen. Part of me feels like it is political correctness run wild. I just don't thing enough information has been presented that warrants the reaction that has taken place.

Her food has done more harm to more people than her racism.

But where there's smoke there's fire. I suspect she has been found out and the way she handled her apologies clearly suggests she didn't really feel she had done anything wrong.

I agree..not really sure how to react to the situation.

On the radio this morning they said, "what woman growing up in Georgia in the 50's and 60's didn't use insensitive racial comments".

With that said, she really didn't help her cause much...so probably for the best. Butter sales will go down....haha!!

I think it is. I'm more for free speech, free thought and separating a person's business life from their personal life.

It's like modern day Salem witch-hunting. "You said that some years ago? You're racist! You're a witch!".

Meanwhile you can say whatever you want derogatory about males and whites.

I don't think her viewers cared all about what she said, some where, some time. And until they did, canceling her was jumping the gun and just feeding the PC beast.

I could care less. All I want to know is what brand of (motor) oil she favors and synthetic or no.

I just want to elaborate on something I "said" earlier. All information that caused this latest stir was information she volunteered in a court case. There wasn't a video made of her going off like Mel Gibson.

I must have missed where charges were filed against her.

They do a run around that by taking away the person's business opportunity or livelihood. No charges or trial needed lol!

Nobody is forced to eat her food....nor listen to her words. Now she has lost her career. For what? What a sad nation we have become in so many ways.

You said it. We have become a nation of cry babies. Plenty of people say mean or insensitive things. So she isnt perfect. So what. Let her be. What a dumb reason to ruin someones career.

She exercised her freedom and now the networks and corporations have exercised theirs.

Don't see how one can say the networks and corporations can't do what they want while defending Paula Deens freedom to say what she likes.

And talk of "they" suggests some of you think there is a conspiracy or dark power behind this.

Nothing of the sort. Deen has simply alienated too many of the customer base and business people have made a commercial decision. Just like the commercial decisions she made when making, deleting and remaking her various apology videos.

Nobody forced her to say any of those things.

When people get fired for possibly saying something away from their work. That is wrong. If I got on a cussing rant at home and my neighbor hears me i shouldnt be at risk of losing my job.

Dude that is racist code no doubt.

If you are a public television personality you might be. When you put yourself out there on Television you are giving up some level of your right to privacy and are subject to public judgement. If the object of that judgement is actually true then you have no recourse. During Paula Deen's deposition she was asked (under oath) if she had ever said the "N' word. Her answer was "of course I have". as if this was normal and just OK. So she is now suffering the judgement of many people out in the public domain she actually created. Not too smart on her part if you ask me.

How is it that someone using a word gets labelled a racist, looses their career, and gets drug through the mud when...

The Dixie Chicks defame the President and still have a job?
Chris Brown beats the snot out of Rhianna and still sells tons of music?
Eminem can beat the snot out of his ex wife and still sell millions of records?
Lil Wayne desecrates the flag and it's OK?

I'm sure not looking to someone on TV for moral character or anything else other than entertainment. I'd bet 99% of Humans have used a racial term at some point in their life. Grow up and get over it.

I'm a mix of various ethnicities all of which have many racial terms. Have at them, wont bother me in the least bit. Why? Cause they are just words and my actions speak louder than my words.

We sound surprised that somebody from Savannah is racist.

I grew up in Savannah. I still have lots of fond memories there. But it has some racist issues.

One of the ways they got around desegregation was to cherry pick white families and bus those kids to the inner-city school. Guess who got bussed? My best friend was in the same grade and lived 6 houses down. He went to the nice air-conditioned school a mile away. I got to ride the bus. But technically, we were desegregated.

The whole thing is not that different than what happened to Rush Limbaugh. Rush ran about a quart low on sanity and insulted women with some demeaning names. Advertisers like to sell things to women so they yanked their dollars right out of his budget. That's the free market.
