Funny how Paul Newman and Steve McQueen were both into racing. McQueen’s Son, Chad, passed away recently and was also an avid race car driver and owner of a race car building business.

In comparison Paul Newman was a much better talent as a race car driver than Steve McQueen. That is not to disparage McQueen in any way. It is simply a fact.
Many professional drivers that raced against Newman have said, if he had put as much time and effort into driving, as he did acting, he would have been a superb professional driving talent.
Newman took his driving very seriously. And he has been posthumously inducted into Motor Sports Hall of Fame.

It could be Joe Blow's 917K and it would still bring high seven figures, maybe eight.
There was one of these owned by a Cleveland area dealer family at the vintage event at Mid-Ohio years ago.
They probably bought it when it was just another obsolete race car, and these were made in what would have to be considered large volume for what it was, since both Porsche and Ferrari had to build at least twenty five examples of these accident out of the FIA rulebook five liter cars to homologate them. Yeah, I know that the 917 was actually 4.9 liters.
