A lot of TV show production gets a long summer break. The shows were recorded ahead of time and 5 shows were recorded in one day, so he worked on set recording one day a week. Pat made nearly $77K PER EPISODE.

His talents were attuned to "late night talk show host" and he actually had one for a while. The game show format was a very small box for him to work inside and I think he treated it satirically-- which added a subtle humor I enjoyed.

Then you should have watched his farewell, live. It was warm, humble, genuine and thoughtful. He thanked the crew, the audience, his wife, his daughter, and Vanna. Nothing fake about the guy.

My wife thought he was smarmy. I didn't have an opinion either way.

We never watch "Wheel". However, on occasion I watch YouTube clips of contestants being total idiots, which I find hilarious. Good thing I'm not on YouTube showing my idiotic moves.

Ugh. TV in general, game shows in particular, such a waste of time. But he figured out a way to make a lot of money and left on his own terms. There’s nothing wrong with that.
