Parking Garages Sure Aren’t Made for Trucks

While my truck is longer than many, it sure isn’t the longest

Crew Cab/6’4” bed

I bought a rubber receiver plug specifically for this reason, back up until it bumps the wall. It’s the most rear point on the truck so no body damage.

But look how far I stuck out!!

Capitalism? Efficiency? Forgot to spray a bit further for trucks? This is why I have to take up 2 parking spots for my F-350 most of the time. I feel your pain.

A lot of parking lots have spots too small to even fit cars well. Not just the length but the width as well.

Even driving, say, my accord into garages creates some stress at certain turn pinch points where it woukd be easy to scrape.

My last job moved "downtown" and into a parking garage.
I was told my F-350 wouldn't fit into the parking garage. I believe it! Even in the Mercury I found myself ducking. Some people from other companies were able to carefully get HD pickups in (height was a concern) and then park across a bunch of spots on higher floors.

My mercury always stuck a foot or two out into the aisle.

Go to a car show-- vehicles, including trucks, were smaller back in the day. My bricknose F150 is petite next to a current model.

Anyone remember the 80s when they briefly striped parking lots "for compact cars only"?

"Compact only" spaces are still used today. One who knowingly opts to operate a large vehicle cannot reasonably expect parking spaces under all situations. "Proper tool for the situation" applies in this case.

That said, a rubber bumper on the trailer hitch makes sense. Smart.
Thanks. I had something all designed that I was going to make, then changed my Google search term and stumbled on these for $4 on Amazon. No brainier choice.

I didn’t even touch on the 6’6” max height. There were definitely a couple places it was snug height wise.

They’re still active in cities for sure.

Definitely not expecting the world to revolve around me. I know what I drive and the choice I made. However, when I have to go to Hopkins hospital, I don’t have much of a choice in where I park. If it helps, we treat my truck like a minivan. It’s the family hauler and when you have 5 people going on vacation, having a 6’ bed to put luggage in is very helpful. Just posting something I found funny, practically the entire engine is not in the official parking spot :ROFLMAO:

I like that idea. Thanks for posting.

A friend of mine who likes enormous personal vehicles wanted to buy a crew cab 1 ton pickup with a 8 foot bed. I convinced him that it would be so long it would never fit in his garage nor on his short suburban driveway without blocking the sidewalk.

So he bought a Grand Wagoneer instead, which is only a bit shorter.

If all the parking lot spaces were sized to accommodate king size pickups and SUVs then there would be fewer spaces, and people would complain about that.

At 200" long the Maverick sticks out in some of the newer parking lots. Got reminded yesterday that my rear end was hanging out a bit.

I dunno, the Costco spots are huge (my wife's 1500 fits easily) and people generally seem to really like them 🤷‍♂️

My 83 C30 isn't that much smaller than my 97 F350 or 08 Dodge 5500.. mostly just because it was 2wd.
