Depends on the car. If you have a 1965 Vette that was a factory red, but you painted it blue, it may loose some value.

But, for a car not collected much, i doubt it.

You'll lose value if you don't get the door sills and other nooks and crannies to match.

If I were buying a used car I would be concerned if I saw that it had been repainted. Would wonder if it had been in a wreck. That would likely make me either walk or go to Carfax if I really wanted the car.

Sometimes stolen cars are repainted as well.

On the other hand, I'm painting my 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII black. No real value to loose, and nobody's going to care except me (and my son).

It looks great in black!

that a great idea. I have a 89 mustang 5.0L I bought from my neightbor it been park for a while, he say park over 7 years, paint is fade and have some small rust. I was thinking paint it candy apple red or torch red and fix those rust. interior is very nice only 79k miles, every thing original.

I like the guy above, I will take some before and after pix, show its not been thru any kind of accident, it just old and paint is fade by the sun. incase i am selling it in future. thanks guys

I dont trust you or your shop to do a complete, correct, quality job. Plus, the car is not original, even if the color was the original selection. My willingness to pay would be substantially reduced, so a significant discount would be required.

If you're doing it for you and will have the car many years, I wouldn't worry about it. If swapping cars soon, like anything that is sold on the secondary market, you won't recoup the cost...

On an appliance or low value vehicle it may make little difference in the end...

That's the biggest concern really....no matter WHO you take the car to, they are bound to miss some spots here and there....if the new buyer catches them it could lower the value....

All comes down to the body shop really.

Best paint job would be to take each panel off individually for painting

BUT, that's a big job, and would call for big $$$ that most people don't have...

I wonder if place that complete restore car, can order those little sticker to put on door like the factory or not ? can u get those sticker from factory ?

I would be concerned mainly because it may indicates it is in an wreck or mistreated by the previous owner (peeled paint) if it is the same color. Different color? I'll be concerned that it was riced out.

If you are going to do it for yourself, don't worry about the value, but if you want to sell it for profit, I'd think twice.

Have you thought about using some paint detailing techniques before deciding that the paint is too gone? You can buy Meguairs Ultimate Compound bottle for under $10 at your local Walmart. You might be pleasantly surprised at the results if you used it on the Mustang.

A good paint job is *very* expensive. But anything else would stand out like an eye sore.

You should also consider painting around the engine, typically, this requires removing the engine.
The cost of a good paint job would be several thousand $
Probably more than the value of the car.

If I may ask what is your vehicle and what is its approximate value?

My guess if under $4000 at sale time it makes absolutely no difference.

its 89 mustang 5.0L 5 speed 79-80k miles, my neighbor park in his drive way since I move here over 5 years now. Last sunday I seem him BBQ so I went over and we end up ask about the mustang. He was too old cant get in and out and he just dont want to sell it since it properly worth nothing, and he did have peoples come over say they looking for this body style for turn into track car, and that is not what he want sell the car for. I told him if he sell to me, imma keep everything stock and did maintaince on it. since he know I been own few camaro and mustang, and they all look good, he say " if you can crank it, its your " I rant over to my garage and get the red top optima ( was on my 98 mustang gt ) 4 year ago, I put in the mustang, and check the oil, add some 5w30 castrol hm I have left from my old camaro. I crank crank crank and she start, I back out and drive to my garage and turn off right away, since the oil is so old, i dont let it run for long. I came back over and talk about the price, he dint say nothing. He dont have the title for it at the moment, but he come with me friday morning to this place pay 20 dollar to get the title, then he sign over to me.

When I have time, I will talk to one of my friend have a body shop, see how much cost to repain the car, for right now first I want do complete tune up oil and filter, brake, transmission and rear diff, and plug and wire.... before take it to body shop. I plan to keep this car til I get old, no plan to sell it since its a gift from my neighbor, good car for crusing sunday or for car show i guest. Plan to keep everything stock, mabe put in a nice flowmaster exhault to make it sound good, and better tires and suspention for driving smooth, and everything else leave the way its.
