I ordered a piece of trim for my car online and today on the track my package it says that my package was damaged . I called them to ask what happened and to my surprise was told they cannot tell me and I have to call the shipper for more info. They also proceed to tell me they do have the package but cannot tell me if it's just the box or the package or what happened. Is this normal!l? I even asked if I could come take a look at it and they said no I wouldn't be allowed to. I have to be honest this is a little off putting since I paid for the darn thing and all!
How do I go about handling this and has anyone else experienced this with ups?
Also now the tracking says the merchandise has been discarded what the [censored]?

I've never had them own up to it. It must really be smooshed. If it's only kinda molested they'll try to deliver it and let me object.

It's in limbo somewhere in the UPS warehouse guts and their internal insurance guys are more than likely getting the paperwork together for a refund.

I've never seen that before. I have signed for a fair amount of windshield boxes from FedEx that sounded like giant Lego boxes. Also had to sign for a GT500 longblock that literally fell off a semi and bounced down a freeway, then was delivered to us standing on the flywheel.

They pack those UPS trucks to the ceiling during the holidays. I used to help the driver everyday at a job I worked at and he would show me how full the truck was on a regular basis. I don't blame the guy for getting a little [censored] and throwing the packages. Those UPS drivers start at 9:30 and don't go home until all the packages are off the truck, so it could be 8:30 by the time they get done, although they do get paid well.

If they don't like the job, they should take one at Burger King or KFC.....

Hellooo Newman: "Parcels are rarely damaged during shipping."

Jerry: " Define rarely"

Newman: "Frequently"

No authority on the subject, but I'd think until you take delivery it's on the seller/shipper to make it right. If you paid with a CC you could dispute the charge if not made right.

The merchant is responsible for dealing with the shipper. As a customer, you can refuse delivery of a damaged package (and I would do that if it shows up, unless you can verify the contents are intact). If you don't receive a package, or it's damaged, the merchant is then responsible for either refunding your money, or replacing the item. If they give you any flack, you can have the charge reversed by your credit card company (presuming that's the payment method you used).

We inspect all major deliveries as soon as they arrive, any damage gets reported to the delivery truck driver and we don't take the delivery. Put it back on the truck and refuse delivery, once you sign for it your ability to get compensation for damage goes out the window. The delivery contract is between the shipper and the shipping company, let them deal with it.

As a dealer, we have to sign for it even if it is damaged. We get the UPS/FedEx driver to note on their little scanner that there is damage. Then we file a claim with Ford or Mazda. If you refuse the delivery they still charge you and will deny any claim because there is nothing to return.

I needed a new bumper cover for my GTI last year. Local dealers were quoting $450-ish for a new OEM part. Found a dealer on eBay in Mass. who was willing to sell one for $300 for the same thing, inclusive of shipping.

Ordered it, it comes on a freight truck. It's not boxed up at all, it's just wrapped in the paper wrapper that the factory sends it in. Of course it got seriously smashed up in transit.

Online dealer asked me to get a quote from a body shop to repair it and he'd refund me the difference. Body shops were quoting more than the value of the bumper to repair it.

Dealer tries to get me to ship it back to him UPS. UPS wanted to charge an oversize fee, would have been over $100 to ship something back to him that was essentially worthless.

Dealer gave up and refunded the entire purchase cost and instructed me to just trash the [censored] thing. Same dealer is no longer selling bumper covers on eBay.
