Mercedes FSM for one type of ball joint connection says the following:

The part number returns nothing. Not sure grease is right, when grease gets wet it turns white and nasty. Thinking it really needs to be some bulk (non-aerosol) cosmoline type spray.

I know LPS-3 can be bought in gallons and may pack and set up. Any other thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks!

I think you would be fine with an aerosol as long as you apply liberally and let all of the solvent evaporate, maybe repeating a time or two fully 'packing' the gap.

I finally got one ball joint done today.

They press in.

The old one was shot, but had signs of a wax all over. So I added some of this not just in the gap that the FSM says, but the gap between the BJ and the bore.

On both the top and bottom.

This stuff is great. Very fluid, but “sets up” a bit. I suspect it cures to a hard wax in time.

I applied it to the gap, but also to the head and knuckle interface of the bolt.

It also has some solvent capability. It picked up a lot of dirt and old wax I guess. Note the bright new bolt - it was perfectly grey galvanized.

In that pic you can see that I also packed the little gap tight.

I’ll look again tomorrow to see how much it has set up.

Thanks very much @RooflessVW !
