I got 5 of the 6 plugs changed this weekend. I had to take the intake manifold off to get to the front three, so I started with the back three. The boots the bolt to the head and hold the plug has two torx T25 bolts. Of course I stripped one of the bolts on the last plug so I stopped. The manifold is back together and everything is running fine. I have someone coming over to get the stipped bolt out next week to change the 6th plug.

Question: The stock bolt size holding the boot to the head is M5x0.8x36.5. I got picked up two M5x0.8x40, hex head a few m5 washers to replace. With the replacement bolts being a bit longer is it safe with the washers?

By far this has been to biggest thing I've done on a car as I had to remove the manifold. Thank goodness for youtube and forums!

I'm not sure I understand this. Are you saying that the coil packs above each plug are retained by two T25 bolts and one of those stripped? You stripped the head of the bolt trying to remove it?

Just trying to understand what happened here.

If i understand this correctly. You rounded the bolt head out and once its removed you want to use a slightly longer bolt with washers correct?

No problem as long as its not countersunk. If it is the washers need to fit in the hole or cut the bolt with a hacksaw and finish the end of the threads with a file.
If the head is not countersunk you may be able to grab the head with small vise grips.

yes i'd think longer is ok with extra washers as long as they don't bump into anything else. Pacifica is the 3.5, sideways mounted, right?

Just curious, I know it's OT, how well does that thing drive? 3.5 was a neat motor and the Pac seems like a wide-footed, low slung, performance-tuned minivan??? Does it run dual intakes like in the LH cars?

3.5 runs pretty good in the Pac. Ours has the four speed, I imagine the later ones with the six speed would be better. Under damped in the front. Some stiffer struts would help. Other than that, nice ride.

Usually when someone says the stripped a bolt they mean the threads are damaged or gone.
Are the threads intact or did you just bugger the head?

The threads are intact, I bugger'd the head to be exact. Clearly, I'm a novice which is why I'm proud I got everything back together and the car runs fine!

I really like our Pacifica. We got it for the low price, high utility, and safety for the family. At first I wasn't keen on getting a Chrysler but have benn happy with this one. We've had it for 3 years.

Had this happen to one of the Torx head cap bolts on the cam caps on the Audi. It was in an easily accessable place, so on went the large locking pliers and I used a slip-joint pliers to twist the locking pliers attached to the bolt head. It popped loose and I used a hex head cap bolt to replace it.

The factory used thread lock on the cam cap bolts, and the Torx was such a small size that it took too much torque to break it loose from the threadlock and the Torx socket broke off in the head of the bolt. Hex heads can take more torque in the same relative sized bit than what a Torx can, I believe.
