Among other states that have banned or are banning phosphates in dishwasher detergent are Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Michigan, Vermont, Minnesota, Illinois, Massachusetts and New York. A bill on Capitol Hill would impose a nationwide ban.

Now, not only will we be broke, we will be dirty.

We use the co-friendly dishwasher liquid and it works just fine. But we have a water softener.

We soon will be able to call each other comrad and feel good about it.

Borax is suppose to help laundry detergent work better by softening the water. Would putting a quarter cup of borax at the bottom of the dish washer soften the water to help the non-phosphate detergent work in hard water locations?

I make my own laundry detergent. I mix in borax and calgon as water softeners, although our water isn't hard to begin with. But yes, borax and calgon are water softeners. Both, borax and calgon are toxic and carcinogenic if ingested.

Maybe one day soon, you'll be able to spell comrade.

What's the big deal? Phosphates are known to be bad for lakes, rivers, and streams, we can do with less, why all the [censored]?
