Is anyone familiar with "typical pricing" for tires in this size? I am researching options for a friend with a Toyota Highlander that takes this size.

He's able to get a deal on some Goodyear Fortera tires for $79/ea (after some special discount). However, he runs these tires currently and they howl like crazy at any speed. Like most GY tires they are hard as a rock, long wearing, but absolutely terrible for comfort and noise.

I thought I could find some Kumho/Hankook/Sumitomo tires in this size for a comparable price, since I have known these brands to be softer riding and quieter.

But that $79 can't be beat! Or can it?

(title fixed -- used to say 245/75/17)

Thanks Satin -- Really appreciate you doing this.

The location is OK. I'm pretty sure the current tires are the HLs, so I'll suggest trying to get the SL for the same deal.

I can vouch for the Sumitomo Tour Plus LXT in that size, which I have on my Ridgeline. Quiet, smooth, nice handling and long wearing so far. I paid $158 a tire five years ago at Tire Kingdom. Frankly there should be little quality to find under $100 in that size.

See what you can find listed at simpletire.com. Also you can save some money with some of Cooper's private label brands like Mastercraft, Dean and Eldorado.
